This insulator has such an overpour that it can barely stand up! The thickness of the skirt exceeds 1/2". 1/4" skirt flake and base flake. This Pennycuick pony is a much larger style than the typical CD 102. A nice addition for the Pennycuick or CD 102 collector!

Most B.G.M. styles are found in colors ranging from Clear to a darker shade of Purple. This falls in the Light Purple range. It was produced by the Baltimore Glass Manufacturing Company, which was formed in 1896 and reportedly manufactured insulators until approximately 1903. 1/4" flake on the lower wire ridge, otherwise about very near mint. Fill a hole in your B.G.M. collection!

CD 130 CAL. ELEC. WORKS (005) Aqua w/ Strong Amber Swirls on One Side. This is from a line built to service The Dalles, Oregon around 1880. In the 1960's, bottle collectors walked the line and found several dozen of these insulators, mostly aqua without impurities. Collector Pete Dennis told me (some twenty years ago) that he was given this one because its finder didn't like the amber swirls! My, How Times Have Changed!

CD-102 - Diamond Dark Olive Amber w/ #12 on Reverse       Sold For: $25

CD 637.9 No Embossing (Made in Uzbekistan) Green. In addition to the WOW factor of its overall appearance, this insulator has some hidden character. There's a small, screw-shaped, white, worm in the top umbrella, and an inch-long bubble at one point on the edge of the lower umbrella. Our consignor says he's been told no more of these will be shipped from where they were found in Kazakhstan. This is expected to be the last of the best color & quality examples to be made available in America. Although never put in service, this insulator has a few tiny nibbles on some of its sharp edges. Nothing large enough to be called a flake. There are a number of natural & shallow annealing lines, mostly in the base. This is a fairly large insulator, measuring 5 7/8ths inches wide at base and 8.5 inches tall. Be sure to see all four views.

Just look at the picture! Do we need to tell you anything else? There are three large bubbles that are open to the inside of the skirt and may be filled with dirt. In any case, it makes for an impressive presentation! Two 1/4" base flakes, otherwise very near mint. An eye-catcher for sure!

There is an interesting blend of Amber and Teal, where in the front there is a large Teal patch and in the rear you can see more pronounced color variation. Although the dome is dark, when you look through the pinhole you can still see the various shades of amber. 1" scratch on the dome, 1/2" wire groove rub, otherwise easily very near mint. A great addition to your pony collection!

For the specialty collector, this is the variant with a small "2" below the wire ridge on the rear. The insulator is mostly Teal Green but one can see some Amber highlights, especially in the skirt, giving it a nice variegated effect. 1/2" flake on the left rear, 1/4" lehr kiss on the rear, otherwise very near mint. A nice color and embossing variant for the Diamond pony collector!

An unusual feature of this insulator is the tiny, widely-spaced drip points. The insulator doesn't even rest on them! One can wonder if they were created to have any functionality at all, compared with the Hemingray style of drip points. 1/8" base flake, 1/2" area of base roughness, otherwise very near mint. For the specialist, this has a "10" on the rear with a backward serifed "1". A novelty for the Diamond pony collector!

An unusual bright shade of light green, this Diamond CD-102 has an unusual manufacturing defect on the inside of the rear skirt, where the threading mandrel formed a few extra sets of threads while being removed. It's not every day a piece with this sort of character comes along! VNM condition with only minor wire groove wire scuffs.

A Type 3 Diamond CD-102 with a base colour of teal blue. This example has an intense degree of amber swirling all throughout, so that the base teal colour only shows through in a couple small areas in the skirt while the rest is a mess of amber swirls, as shown in the photos. Excellent condition with only some scuffs in the left side of the wire groove, making this one about as close to mint as you'll likely ever find.

What a stunning color! The shape of the "mini blob tops" is really similar to the larger CD 126, and one knows how desirable the purple CD 126 is! This example is quite rare as well. Although the embossing is very weak, one can see that it is not embossed "BROOKFIELD", but it is obviously a Brookfield product due to the plethora of patents on the crown. 3/4" area of base flaking, 1/8" dome ding, 1/2" scuff on the thick mold line on the dome, otherwise about very near mint. The CD 102 is the only style with the N.W. & B.I.T. CO. embossing and was produced for the New Westminster and Burrard Inlet Telephone Company. Most of these have been found in limited areas around Vancouver, BC, and since they are relatively difficult to acquire, now's your chance! BUBBLES! BUBBLES! BUBBLES! The first bubble is completely enclosed and is nearly 2" long and 3/4" tall. The second is also enclosed and is 3/4" wide and 1" tall. A pocket of trapped air pressed into the skirt, leaving a crater of thinner glass which is over 3" long and 1" tall. Not to be outdone, there are several large bubbles in the dome, up to 1/2" long, and a nice complement of smaller ones as you can see in view 4. If you bother to look, there is some chipping on the drip points, otherwise the piece is very, very near mint. The insulator would be impressive with just the bubbles in the dome, but the presence of the three other bubbles takes it to a totally new height!

Peacock Blue and Ruby Red private issue "insulators" were made for the Village Telephone Supply Industrial Company of Salome, Arizona in the 1970's as advertising items. Most of the Ruby Red examples are very dark in color, nearly blackglass, as seen in view 3, and it's hard to see their true color. This one is much lighter than typically encountered and one can see the glowing Ruby Red color with the usual backlighting. Worth a premium over the very dark shades. This little diamond pony has a strong infusion of milky impurities throughout the striking yellow mustard glass. These milk impurities appear to also contain a very fine measure of dark carbon, which stands out quite well with back lighting. Of course, if you want to enjoy the full impact of the milk swirling, base lighting (View 1) is the absolute best method.

As a group, these make a great conversation piece.

"Mustard" insulators are seeing a great surge in popularity recently, and one very similar to this piece soared in our last auction to nearly $2,500! Often Mustard pieces have some olive tones, but this piece has none. As is typical with Mustard ponies, there is some milky swirling present, which in the thicker dome area appears more translucent. It is interesting to note that this example has the same dimpled texture on the dome as the piece in our previous auction. Could they be brothers? A "must-have" for the pony collector!

CD-102 - CGI Co       Sold For: $495       Color: Light lemon lime yellow.

A rather unique little California pony that retains an unusual amount of extruded glass at the mold line. The mold was obviously improperly secured prior to the glass pour, which allowed the extrusion, creating the thin 'fins' of glass at the mold line. We are normally very hesitant to offer the more common yellow California CD styles in our auctions. This is due to the ease of 'creating' them by exposing purple shades to high thermal sources. It can be very difficult at times to identify the authentic yellows from the heated ones. In this case, it is quite apparent that this pony was never placed in service, at least with a wire attached, otherwise the glass 'fins' would have been broken away. With no sun exposure, it did not transform to the typical purple shades, but remained this gorgeous yellow shade, with maybe a hint of green. If you are going to add a yellow California to your collection, why not one that provides you with the strong assurance of being original and unaltered?

A little minor flaking and scuffing. You can see an annealing line behind the "B." The initials are for the "New Westminster and Burrard Inlet Telephone Company" and the CD 102 is the only insulator known to have that embossing. The solid dome glass highlights the purple color, several bubbles and little milk wisps. A really pretty piece! (#507)
