CD-116.5 - B Sold For: $506 Color: Light Aqua
| This uncommon CD has a very interesting shape featuring two deep wire grooves! Over the years, there have been various opinions on whether this was produced by Brookfield. Some say "yes", others say it may have come from a glass house in Elmer, New Jersey. A collector recently relayed the following story to us and a second confirmed it. We think it is significant and want to share it with all of you. Back in around 1974 Mr. William Brookfield, the grandson of the insulator manufacturer, was a special guest at a Capital District Insulator Club show near Albany, NY. He brought with him a box full of insulators that had been saved by the family, stating that the Brookfield company manufactured every one of the insulators in that box. | This uncommon CD has a very interesting shape featuring two deep wire grooves! 1" bruise and associated flake on the skirt at the mold line, two 1/4" factory annealing lines in the wire ridge. [UPDATE: Over the years, there have various opinions on whether this was made by Brookfield. Some say "yes", others say "no", others say it may have been made by a glass house in Elmer, New Jersey. | 1/8" wire ridge flake, otherwise about very near mint. Although the "B" embossing is typically associated with Brookfield, there are indications this was not a Brookfield product. This less common CD is often overlooked! |

| A 1/2" flake on the middle wire groove, some rear wire groove roughness, and some white matter has filled a bruise in the rear. A somewhat tough CD to find. Contrast this CD style with the very similar CD 117 shown in lot 26. Although the "B" embossing is typically associated with Brookfield, there are indications this was not a Brookfield product. Give it a good home! |
