CD-123 - E.C.& M.CO.       Sold For: $275       Color: Blue Aqua
"H" mold - 4" tall. A short guy! Only 4" tall and you can't see the mold line around the base! 2 little 1/4" flakes on the skirt. The base is in really good condition for these, which are usually pretty damaged. A few factory annealing lines on the skirt. The CD 123 units were produced for the Electrical Construction & Maintenance Company of San Francisco, California during the 1870's. An interesting height variant for an "H" mold!

CD-123 - E.C.& M.CO.       Sold For: $352       Color: Blue Aqua w/ Bubble
"B" mold - 4" tall. A huge fully-enclosed bubble, over 1" wide and 1/2" tall, is at the left mold line. 1/4" x 1 1/4" band of milky amber can be seen on the left rear. The base is in great shape, with none of the typical flakes, just 1/8" area of roughness around the circumference of the base. A classic early piece, especially in this very fine condition. It's a keeper!

CD-123 - E.C.& M.CO.       Sold For: $3,190       Color: Cobalt Blue w/ Amber Swirls
"A" mold - 4 3/8" tall. Amber swirls are unusual, especially in the Cobalt CD 123's. You can see a strong ribbon sweep across the front and patches of amber throughout the rest of the skirt and up to the wire groove. Be sure to view all four photos to see the amber wrap around the insulator. 1/4" by 1/2" and 1/4" square flakes up from the base, chipping on the base, 2" bruise on the rear. A nice example, especially with the amber swirling!

CD-123 - E.C.& M.CO.       Sold For: $440       Color: Blue Aqua
"H" mold - 4 1/4" tall. 1/8" wire ridge flake, some typical base flaking. The CD 123 units were produced in the 1870's for the Electrical Construction & Maintenance Company of San Francisco, California which operated a telegraph supply house. A nice clean-looking example!

CD-123 - E.C.& M.CO.       Sold For: $10,450       Color: Cobalt Blue
"A" mold - 4 3/8" tall. Amazing, outstanding factory mint condition! The base is as smooth and well-formed as a CD 121. For completeness, there are very minor scuffs on top of the "M" and the "F". A rich, Cobalt Blue coloration with nice bubbles floating in the front skirt. The pedigree of this insulator goes back to 1969 when it was discovered. We were in touch with the second buyer. He has a letter from the seller dated September 20, 1971, and reads in part "As for the mint Cobalt ECM (this is one of mint, never used ones that were found 2 years ago under a railroad depot) I talked to the party that has this one and they want 300.00 for it, will let you have it for the same price if you want it, plus postage. It is truly a fantastic ECM. [...] Well let me know as soon as possible on any of the above, as they will not last long I don't think." "H" mold - 4 1/4" tall. [UPDATE: This is an "H" mold not a "G" mold as initially listed. There is a trace of a vertical line of glass in the wire groove under the "M" and there is a significantly larger blob of glass in the left wire groove at the mold line compared to the right.] This classic style was manufactured for the Electrical Construction & Maintenance Company of San Francisco, California during the 1870's. 3/4" area of flaking at the right mold line [UPDATE: as shown in view 3 taken outside with direct front lighting], several slivers at the base of the skirt, and small slivers on the base, otherwise easily very near mint.

CD-123 - E.C.& M.CO.       Sold For: $1,815       Color: Fizzy Aqua EIN: [030]
"B" mold - 4 1/4" tall. Fizzy, which is quite unusual in E.C.& M.s! When base lit, this insulator really comes to life. Backlit in your display case, where you can see the translucent effect the bubbles produce, it will look outstanding. The base is nearly perfect and the insulator is overall in great condition. The translucent fizzy glass really makes this stand out on your shelf!

CD-123 - E.C.& M.CO.       Sold For: $6,875       Color: Emerald Green
"F" mold - 4 1/2" tall. An absolutely stunning color! The additional 1/2" mold extension gives it even more presence. 1 1/2" area of heavier base and skirt flaking around the right mold line, the rest of the base is in better-than-average condition, otherwise about very near mint. [UPDATE: view 3 shows the area of skirt flaking at the right mold line and view 4 at 12 o'clock shows where this carries over to the base.] The presence of many microbubbles gives this piece additional visual appeal. We'll list the Price Guide estimate and see how it goes. An extremely rare and desirable E.C. & M. insulator!

CD-123 - E.C.& M.CO.       Sold For: $462       Color: Aqua w/ Amber Swirls
"C" mold - 3 7/8" tall. Nice and clean with a base that is far better than usually encountered. These typically lack "character" but this is an exception with amber swirls on both sides that run all around the pinhole down to the skirt. Some milkiness gives a translucent effect in parts of the skirt. Quite a nice piece!

CD-123 - E.C.& M.CO.       Sold For: $3,740       Color: "Blackglass" Olive Amber
"B" mold - 4" tall. What a beautiful insulator! It is Olive Amber Blackglass, as you can see when holding up the skirt to the light. Perhaps only a couple of these are known to exist, and it is clearly a very desirable color! Previously part of the collection of Fritz Kettenburg. On the front skirt, 1/4" x 1" V-shaped chip and associated 2" long fracture. 3/4" fracture up from the base on the rear skirt. Some high-point wear, some roughness at the base of the skirt. [UPDATE: view 3 shows the V-shaped chip on the front and view 4 shows the associated fractures and base roughness] The rest of the insulator is in excellent condition. A key piece for the advanced E.C.& M. collector. When will you see another?

CD-123 - E.C.& M.CO.       Sold For: $2,365       Color: Olive Amber
"H" mold - 3 3/4" tall. One of the most attractive and desirable of the range of colors for EC&Ms. See its killer brother in lot 3. What a duo! Stress line at the top of the pinhole and a flake on the rear skirt. The base is in better shape than is typical. This darker shade should complement the other colors in your lineup. Update: 9/5 Note this is not blackglass as it easily passes light as shown in the photos. The color density there is very good (our lightbox, our monitor) but we'd expect it to be close to what you see on yours. UPDATE: 9/11 View 3 shows the view of the pinhole. The main annealing line is 45 degrees counterclockwise from the mold line. You can feel that line on the top of the dome. There are two smaller arced lines as well. These are more shallow and only inside the pinhole. We believe all are annealing lines and not fractures. The dome is very thin, perhaps 1/8" thick. During cooling, this thin glass would cool faster than the other g

CD-123 - E.C.& M.CO.       Sold For: $4,950       Color: Sapphire Blue
"B" mold - 4" tall. Note this is not the "D" mold but the less common "B" mold, if you can consider this color in a "D" mold "common!" Either one is a nice piece, but if you want a Sapphire Blue example, why not get the best? A 3/4" flake right of center and a little 1/4" flake on the rear, otherwise about very near mint. See its killer brother in lot 4. What a duo! Hard to price so we just list the price guide value as a reference. A key piece for the advanced EC&M collector. Will you ever have a chance to get another? UPDATE: 9/12 View 3 added which contrasts this with a strong, rich Hemingray Blue on the left and a "middle of the road" HGCO Sapphire Blue on the right. We believe it's Sapphire Blue.

CD-123 - E.C.& M. CO.       Sold For: $286       Color: Deep Fizzy Aqua
An amazing repair appears to have mated the dome and the skirt from two different insulators, glued together at the middle of the wire groove. They are so closely matched that there are similar bubbles and fizz in the skirt and the dome. The base is as good as you will find on any E.C. & M. The fizz in the glass gives the insulator a translucent effect, making it stand out on your shelf.

CD-123 - E.C.& M. CO.       Sold For: $319       Color: Blue Aqua
"B" mold - 4 1/8" tall. Wonderful condition. The base is in great shape. The glass "dot" on the rear is huge and protrudes out nearly an 1/8". This is about as good as it gets for an E.C.& M.

CD-123 - E.C. & M. CO. S.F.       Sold For: $1,430       Color: Fizzy Light Green Aqua
"F" mold; glass button; square dome; flared skirt; 4 1/4" tall. One 1/2" base flake on the rear, otherwise just the typical flaking around the base. Great condition. This mold style is much less common, and is the style that the Cobalt Blue pieces are usually seen in. Many feel that the aqua variation is much less common than its colored counterpart, so the generally accepted price, which does not yet reflect the true rarity of these pieces, has begun to rise as collectors learn of this discrepancy. One can see two parallel lines on the rear crown where the slug plate was added to remove the upside down E.C. & M. CO. embossing. To add interest, the piece is filled with micro bubbles, giving it a unique slightly translucent effect. If you have been looking to complete your E.C. & M. CO. mold set, this piece is for you!

CD-123 - E.C.& M. CO.       Sold For: $1,540       Color: Bright Light Blue
"A" Mold - 4 3/8" tall. EC&M insulators usually have a bit of base flaking; this example is in excellent condition! This insulator was found in a recently purchased home in Massachusetts. The heirs of a Californian woman brought her possessions back east with them when her estate was settled. As the family had no interest in the seventy or so insulators, they were left with the house when it was sold. What a wonderful story of how an insulator was brought (back) into the hobby, and what a great color for this "A" mold example! (#0229)

CD-123 - E.C.& M.CO.       Sold For: $242       Color: Deep Aqua
{"B" Mold} Incredible condition for an E.C.& M.! Just a few small flakes around the skirt and a couple on the base. A beautiful deep shade of aqua, leaning towards a teal color. A bonus is a nice 1/2" bubble in the skirt! (#2155)

CD-123 - E.C.& M.CO.       Sold For: $3,410       Color: Rich Cobalt Blue
{"A" Mold} Factory dent in lower front skirt. Some typical base chipping, but the photo shows the worst of it. Nice and rich in color, the insulator passes a lot of light. Aside from being a great color, there's a large number of modest-sized bubbles in the skirt, adding extra character to an already awesome piece! This Cobalt Blue E.C.& M.CO. weighs in as the third "Most Widely Desirable Scarce to Rare Glass Insulator" as voted by Insulator Collectors On the Net (ICON) members. (#2156)
