Bill & Jill Insulators - Next Auction: Coming Soon

CD-134 - {Unembossed}       Sold For: $3,410       Color: Dark Green w/ Seed Bubbles
When front lit, one can see the spectacular oval-shaped seed bubbles near the surface of the glass. When backlit, these can still be seen in the skirt where the glass is thinner. 3/4" open bubble on the base with minor associated flaking. This is already a rare color, and its desirability is significantly enhanced by the seed bubbles!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - {Unembossed Pennycuick}       Sold For: $88       Color: Fizzy Light Aqua
What a crude and distorted insulator! Two of the sides of the base are pushed in, giving the appearance of a rounded rectangle. The base of the pinhole is also distorted. Great condition for this oddball Pennycuick!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - T-H.E.CO.       Sold For: $798       Color: Dark Root Beer Amber
Brookfield was likely the glasshouse commissioned to produce these beautiful signals sold by the Thomson-Houston Electric Company. Joe Maurath, Jr., a longtime and noted collector, has confirmed that nearly all of the amber T-HE signals were found on fire alarm circuits in the Massachusetts cities of Abington and Rockland in 1970. He estimated that about 35-40 amber T-HE signals are known in the hobby. These are hard to come by and often seem to have some amount of damage. 1/4" wire groove chip on the rear at the right mold line, 2 open bubbles on the base with 1/2" associated flaking, small dings here and there. All the significant damage is in the rear. One of the tougher and more desirable colors for a T-H.E.CO. piece! UPDATE: This appears to have been lightly tumble cleaned. The embossing and mold lines are still well-pronounced.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - FALL RIVER       Sold For: $220       Color: Light Aqua
The CD 134 "FALL RIVER POLICE SIGNAL" and CD 133 "CITY FIRE ALARM" insulators were manufactured by Brookfield on special order for the city of Fall River, Massachusetts to identify the police call box lines and the municipal fire alarm circuits. 1/4" scuff on the dome. A classic piece, especially in this fine condition!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - DEC. 19       Sold For: $45       Color: Light Green
Nice bubble in dome above front embossing. Open bubble on base has small chipping on both sides

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - BROOKFIELD       Sold For: $605       Color: Yellow Green
Very few insulators smile at you! This example has a bubble about 1 3/4" wide and 1/2" tall right in the front. Moderate wire groove rubbing and a few scuffs and dings here and there. A desirable insulator even excluding the fact that this has nice dome glass and an inviting smile! Who knows what it is worth?

CD-134 - W.F.G. Purple Dome w/ Gray Base       Sold For: $75
CD 134 W.F.G. (010) Purple Dome with Gray Base. This type of two tone is not unusual as the wire or insulated cable would shade the glass from the wire groove down, not allowing it to turn as purple.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - Oakman Aqua with Faint Amber       Sold For: $200
CD 134 Oakman (010) Aqua with Faint Amber Swirls. Samuel Oakman was a major figure in the history of insulator manufacturing. He was awarded nearly two-dozen patents for insulator designs and production methods. CD 134's embossed with his name are somewhat scarce.

CD-134 - K.C.G.W. Blot Out Ice Green       Sold For: $30
CD 134 No Name (020) Ice Green. Has K.C.G.W. blotted out on one side; and Fairmount blotted out on the other.

CD-134 - T-H. E. CO. Green       Sold For: $220
CD 134 T-H. E. CO. (030) Green. Elihu Thomson and Edwin Houston went into business in 1883 making street lights and other electrical products. In 1892 the company merged with Edison General Electric resulting in the birth of the General Electric Company. Insulators with the T-H. E. name are typically aqua in color. Green is scarce. Amber, yellow green and olive are rare.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - Brookfield Olive Green       Sold For: $370
CD 134 Brookfield (100) Olive Green. In some areas the color is more of a yellow green, but I've called it olive for its overall appearance even though that's not a listed color name. The embossing is a bit difficult to read due to the wrinkled & wavy whittle marks.

Bill & Jill Insulators - Next Auction: Coming Soon

CD-134 - {Unembossed Pennycuick}       Sold For: $66       Color: Dark Aqua
An attractively colored Pennycuick! 3/4" bruise on the wire ridge in the rear, otherwise about very near mint. The darker color makes it stand out among Light Aqua pieces!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - {Unembossed Pennycuick}       Sold For: $61       Color: Blue Aqua
A crudely made Pennycuick style. The base is out-of-round and has a nice underpour right in the front. A little area of flaking about 1/4" wide on the wire ridge, otherwise about very near mint. A classic New England Pennycuick!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - W.F.G.CO.       Sold For: $99       Color: Purple/Light Smoke Two-tone
This insulator has a two-tone coloration, where the lower skirt is nearly clear and the dome is Purple. 3/8" wire ridge flake on the rear and a little crazing on the dome. Nice contrasting colors!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - W.F.G.CO.       Sold For: $143       Color: Lavender w/ Steamy Milk
1/4" band of steamy microbubbles starts at the base of the skirt and widens until it is halfway around the dome. 1/4" bubble at the base by the right mold line, 1/4" flake/chip on the wire ridge at the right mold line, a few scuffs here and there.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - DIAMOND P       Sold For: $633       Color: Green
A classic New England piece! Diamond P embossed insulators are often found in pastel shades, so this is an uncommonly bright color. A few little scuffs and dings here and there, a bruise at the base of the threads, otherwise factory mint. There is a 1/4" square "groove" running the width of the base which is an open bubble. Several other open bubbles are on the base and inside of the skirt. It is likely that the "P in a diamond" logo refers to James Pennycuick, who designed a unique method for "forming screw threads on glass" while leaving the plunger in place during annealing. The date of his patent, August 11, 1885, is embossed on the rear. Many Pennycuick products are crude, and this insulator has its crudeness in the form of bubbles on the base!

Bill & Jill Insulators - Next Auction: Coming Soon

CD-134 - PETTINGELL ANDREWS       Sold For: $550       Color: Blue Aqua
Is the insulator on the left a new CD? No, it's a stretched and distorted CD 134! The dome looks like it could have been somewhat twisted, shifted to the left, and certainly stretched up! There are plenty of thick, heavy creases in the wire groove area. Pettingell Andrews was a prominent electrical goods supplier located in Boston, MA. 3/8" lower wire ridge flake, 1/8" ding on the upper wire ridge, some scuffing on the dome, 1/4" clean open bubble on the base. (The normal unit shown on the right is for comparison purposes only!) Pettingell Andrews embossed insulators are hard to find, and this distorted example is quite an oddity for those who appreciate misformed insulators!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - FALL RIVER POLICE SIGNAL       Sold For: $231       Color: Light Aqua
These always-popular "FALL RIVER" insulators were manufactured by Brookfield on special order for the city of Fall River, Massachusetts to identify the police call box lines, and that's the only place they have been discovered. Some scuffs and dings here and there. Pair this with the "CITY FIRE ALARM" in lot 55 for a classic duo of Massachusetts keepsakes!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - DEC. 19       Sold For: $72       Color: Blue w/ Milk Swirls
Milk swirls are especially prominent when the insulator is base lit. 1/4" area of roughness to the right of the mold line, otherwise easily very near mint. An attractive old telegraph insulator produced by Hemingray!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - CALIFORNIA       Sold For: $462       Color: Aqua
Although this may look like a CD 161, it is the rare variant without an inner skirt that collectors prize. The insulator has crude molding with creases and bubbles that can be seen all around, which is unusual for a California piece! Very near mint. Don't overlook this sometimes overlooked California insulator!

CD-134 - {Unembossed Pennycuick}       Sold For: $121       Color: Rich Teal Blue
This has all the characteristics of a Pennycuick: crude, sharp angled threads, and a raised dot at the top of the pinhole. 1 1/2" bruise and 1/4" flake on the upper wire ridge, some roughness at the base of the pinhole, a couple of annealing lines in the dome area and some dings and flakes here and there. A classic CD 134 Pennycuick!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - GOOD       Sold For: $110       Color: Light Aqua w/ Amber Swirls
An attractive display, with 1/2" bubble in the skirt, nice amber swirls from the skirt to and around the pinhole and even some extra dome glass! A couple of annealing stress lines in the dome, otherwise very, very near mint.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - DEC. 19       Sold For: $187       Color: Clear
This boldly-embossed example features a characteristic large "B" on the rear skirt. These are found in a variety of colors and this is "clearly" the best, especially in this very, very near mint condition!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - C.E.L.CO.       Sold For: $176       Color: Blue Aqua
The initials may have stood for "Cambridge Electric Light Company," a supplier of electrical equipment, or perhaps "Citizens Electric Light Company", also in the Massachusetts area. Joe Maurath, Jr., a specialist who has studied New England glass extensively, writes that all of the Pennycuick-style C.E.L.CO.'s are embossed on top of something else. Some scuffs and dings here and there. A "mystery" insulator for your collection!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - B.G.M.CO.       Sold For: $1,265       Color: Purple
An excess of glass causes the base of the pinhole to fall within about 1/4" of the base of the insulator, resulting in the "B.G.M.CO." embossing appearing above it and allowing the rich Purple color to be clearly seen. There was a molding quirk, perhaps due to air at the top of the pinhole, that leaves an area of translucent light purple below the darker purple of the dome. 1/4" base flake, otherwise about very near mint. An attractive and desirable medium Purple example!

CD-134 - {Unembossed Pennycuick}       Sold For: $963       Color: Dark Sapphire Blue EIN: [080]
A rich, deep, saturated color! A fracture runs from the dome to the skirt and a second one runs around about half the top of the pinhole. Haze, scuffing and dings typical of an example that might have been dug, but there are no chips or flakes. A beautiful color that displays quite well!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - {Oakman style}       Sold For: $99       Color: Rich Apple Green EIN: [005]
A rich, saturated color! 1" wire ridge chip on the front, a 1" wire ridge chip with an associated 1/2" wide flake which extends up to the dome, and a crude base. Yes, there are some condition issues but this is a very difficult color to acquire!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - W.F.G.CO.       Sold For: $253       Color: Light Yellow EIN: [010]
{2 dot mold} Western Flint Glass insulators, produced outside of Denver, Colorado, are found in a wide range of colors, many of which are unique to this area. This is one of the most desirable shades. One can see a hint of green in the glass. Three 1/4" flakes in the rear wire ridge area, otherwise very near mint. A great addition to your Denver single petticoat signal collection!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - W.F.G.CO.       Sold For: $176       Color: Junky Smoky Sage Green EIN: [010]
This insulator has nice distorted threads and an area of black impurities embedded in the glass. Nearby there is a swish of "steam" that flows down to the wire ridge and to the front skirt. Very near mint. A rarely seen "junk-in-glass" insulator that displays well from the right side as shown in the photo!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - T-H.E.CO. // DEC.19.1871       Sold For: $88       Color: Light Lime Green EIN: [010]
Boldly embossed "T-H.E.CO." on the top of the dome. This was produced for the Thomson-Houston Electric Company, one of the precursors to General Electric. An annealing line down from the dome and 1/8" wire ridge chip, otherwise easily very near mint. For another T-H.E.CO. style see lot 61. A nice embossing variant for your 1871 collection!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - C.E.L.CO.       Sold For: $688       Color: Light Jade Aqua Milk EIN: [020]
A jade-like translucent effect can be seen throughout this insulator. All that can be seen of the hidden embossing is a small period between the "C." and the "E". Flat 1/2" chip on the base was caused by the flaking of an open bubble. This typical crude Pennycuick has some roughness at the base of the threads. This will certainly stand out next to items in your collection that have more clarity to their appearance!

CD-134 - {Unembossed Pennycuick}       Sold For: $660       Color: Dark Green EIN: [080]
The dome of this Pennycuick style insulator is filled with numerous opaque bubbles that are more visible from the front. An interesting milk swirl adorns the top of the pinhole. 1/2" skirt flake, 1/8" base flake, otherwise very near mint. Characteristics of the Pennycuick style are a point at the top of the pinhole and sharp, saw-tooth threads. Pair this with the Dark Yellow Green CD 104 Pennycuick in lot 9. A beautiful Pennycuick!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - W.F.G.CO.       Sold For: $743       Color: Light Yellow EIN: [010]
Western Flint Glass insulators, produced outside of Denver, Colorado, are found in a wide range of colors, many of which are unique to this area. This is one of the most desirable shades. About very near mint. A great addition to your W.F.G. toll collection!

CD-134 - DIAMOND P       Sold For: $578       Color: Fizzy Light Green EIN: [010]
Classic New England insulator with a bit of fizz for pizzazz! Often found with chips on the wire ridge; this only has two small 1/8" flakes. A keeper, especially in this condition!

CD-134 - DIAMOND P       Sold For: $297       Color: Blue
A classic New England piece! 1/2" open bubble on the base in the front, 1/2" flake on the wire ridge, otherwise about very near mint. The "Diamond P" embossed insulators are attributed to James Pennycuick, who designed a unique method for "forming screw threads on glass" while leaving the plunger in place during annealing. Ready for display!

CD-134 - {Unembossed Pennycuick}       Sold For: $1,650       Color: Dark Olive Amber
Crude Pennycuick piece. 1" open bubble on the wire ridge, a 1" base chip and a 1" skirt fracture. Rubs and scuffs here and there. The piece has seen better days but the color is stupendous! Interesting seed bubbles can be seen near the surface, especially on the crown. A great way to add to your Pennycuick collection!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - {Unembossed Pennycuick}       Sold For: $3,190       Color: Yellowy Olive Green
A colorful piece. Damage is limited to three potstone spider bruises and an open bubble. All factory original. See lot 9 for another tough CD 134 in a similar color. Worth a pretty penny for this Pennycuick? We think so!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - PATENT DEC. 19       Sold For: $2,750       Color: Deep Yellow Olive Green
Bold embossing, which is less commonly seen on these pieces. About three 1/4" flakes on each of the wire ridge and the base. A little roughness here and there. We wanted to be sure of the color of this, so we compared it to a Yellow Olive Green insulator (see lot 30) and a CD 134 Olive Green "1871" that we had hanging around. Hmmm... not olive green, not yellow olive green! We took a group shot of all three pieces and in Photoshop were able to merely darken the Yellow Olive Green piece to get an exact color match with this. Thus, we are very comfortable calling this "Deep Yellow Olive Green." If you are lucky enough to own an Olive Green example, this will fit nicely in your line up. If you are looking for an insulator in either of those tough green colors, this is for you! CD 134 and "1871" collectors take note!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - DIAMOND P       Sold For: $506       Color: Light Aqua
The quality of the molding of these "Diamond P" insulators is normally quite good. This is an oddity in that the embossing is very weak. It's easy to overlook the 1/4" ding on the dome. Also unusual is the presence of a large bubble, over 3/4" across, in the rear dome. It looks like a giant cyclops! What great character! For another example of a "Diamond P", see lot 59.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - DIAMOND P       Sold For: $506       Color: Fizzy Snowy Aqua
Super fizzy and snowy! See another Diamond P in lot 60. A 3/4" wire ridge chip goes almost unnoticed while your eyes are drawn to the overall look of the insulator. The snow and fizz also give a translucent appearance. Classic New England piece with character!

CD-134 - {Unembossed} {Pennycuick style}       Sold For: $83       Color: Light Aqua
A crudely formed Pennycuick insulator, but...this has a large 3/4" bubble in the dome above a HUGE 2 1/2" bubble in the skirt! Some dings and flakes here and there. A cool, crude critter!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - W.F.G.CO.       Sold For: $44       Color: Ice Green w/ Milk Swirls
Produced by the Western Flint Glass Company in Denver, Colorado. A few little dings, about very near mint. Some nice milk can be seen, especially in the rear, running from the skirt to the dome.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - PATENT DEC 19       Sold For: $396       Color: Name that Blue
A difficult color to name! It's richer and deeper than a Hemingray-42 in a deep shade of Hemingray Blue. View 3 compares it to a strong Hemingray Blue next to an Aqua piece. Easily very near mint. The glass has good clarity, enhancing the well-saturated coloration! Whatever the technical color name is, you won't be disappointed with this insulator!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - DIAMOND P       Sold For: $418       Color: Green
About a half dozen 1/4" areas of upper wire ridge flaking, otherwise about very near mint. An unqualified green example for your Diamond P collection!

CD-134 - DIAMOND P       Sold For: $418       Color: Fizzy Light Green Aqua
1" base flake at an open bubble otherwise very near mint. Crude with folds on the surface of the glass creating nice swirls. An abundance of small bubbles make the color "pop", and trails of microbubbles give the appearance of swirls. A piece with character!

CD-134 - [Glass dot] // [Glass Dot]       Sold For: $55       Color: Fizzy Light Green Aqua
Two 1/8" flakes on the wire ridge and a 1" stress line at the right mold line, otherwise very near mint. Attributed to the King City Glass Works. One can clearly see the blot outs that used to read "K.C.G.W." and "FAIRMOUNT" that are under the large, bold dots. For an embossed CD 120 K.C.G.W. see lot 45. The glass is filled with thousands of micro bubbles or "fizz", giving it a translucent appearance. To top it off, there is a nice 1" x 1/2" large bubble right in front!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - PATENT - DEC. 19       Sold For: $143       Color: Aqua w/ Snow and Bubbles
About a half dozen chipped drip points and a five drip point wide bruise near the left mold line. 1/2" flake on the upper wire ridge and a 1" stress line up from the base on the rear. All of this really pales when you base light it to show the spectacular amount of "snow" impurities as well as small bubbles in the glass. View 1 shows it front lit. It looks similar base lit. Even back lit as in view 2 and view 3 you can see its translucent appearance as well as the snow and bubbles. A very attractive piece! Great presentation!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - DIAMOND P       Sold For: $352       Color: Sage Green w/ Fizz
1/2" bruise/chip on the dome, otherwise about very near mint. An abundance of small bubbles or "fizz" give it a bit of a translucent appearance. A classic "Pennycuick!"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - DIAMOND P       Sold For: $165       Color: Green Aqua w/ Bubbles
1/2" bruise/chip on the dome and some associated radiating fracture lines, 3/4" wire ridge chip in the rear, other little flakes and dings. What makes this piece unique is that it appears to be loaded with pin head sized white impurities, however on closer study, they appear to be small round and oval shaped bubbles that are white! Quite an unusual piece!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - DIAMOND P       Sold For: $253       Color: Lime Green w/ Fizz
1 1/2" and 3/4" base flake, 1/4" wire ridge flake, 1/2" stress line on the top of the pinhole, otherwise about very near mint. Really not as bad as it sounds! Nice micro bubbles give it a bit of a translucent appearance.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - C.E.L.CO.       Sold For: $231       Color: Milky Aqua
{Pennycuick style} Eight or so dings here and there, a small open bubble with no associated flaking on the left front. The initials may have stood for "Cambridge Electric Light Company," a supplier of electrical equipment, but this is not confirmed. Nice swirls of milk all around, quite uncommon, give the piece a translucent effect. What a beauty!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - AM.INSULATOR CO.       Sold For: $231       Color: Light Aqua w/ Bubbles
1/2" ridge chip in the rear and three smaller 1/4" ridge flakes. Embossed "AM.INS.CO." for the American Insulator Company. There is an abundance of larger bubbles (pin head size or larger) rather than just "fizzy" micro bubbles. These bubbles can be seen very clearly when back lit. An attractive insulator for sure!

CD-134 - {Unembossed}       Sold For: $83       Color: Fizzy Light Aqua
Very, very near mint. Crudely formed with an out-of-round base. The uneven texture on the surface of the insulator resembles the Canadian "whittle mold" style. The piece is filled with microbubbles, giving it a translucent appearance. What a great character piece!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - {Unembossed Pennycuick}       Sold For: $121       Color: Teal Blue
1/2" wire ridge flake, a couple of stress lines in the wire groove, otherwise very near mint. A classic "Pennycuick" with an out-of-round base, sharp threads, and a teat at the top of the pinhole. A stand out color!

CD-134 - {Oakman style}       Sold For: $1,155       Color: Glowing 7-up Green
1 1/2" base flake and 1/4" skirt flake, 3/8" flake on the wire groove and some other blemishes. There is a closed bubble on the skirt as can be seen in the main photo. One can see the slotted pinhole with the solid round dot near the top of the slots. But who is really thinking about the condition or the manufacturer? This incredible, bright, glowing color is particularly difficult to acquire in this style. Put this in your case and people's eyes will POP!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - T-H.E. CO.       Sold For: $770       Color: Rootbeer Amber
A few little imperfections and small flakes on the crown including an open bubble. Brookfield was likely the glasshouse commissioned to produce these beautiful signals by Thomson-Houston Electric Company. This piece is far better than most examples, as there are no base chips or other significant damage.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - PATENT DEC. 19       Sold For: $462       Color: Bright Milky Lime Green
6 chipped drips, 3/8" skirt stress line, otherwise very near mint. Milky veils flow around the insulator, giving it a bit of a translucent appearance. The color is similar to some of the CD 133 H.G. CO. pieces, but it is much less common in this "1871" embossing.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - FALL RIVER POLICE SIGNAL       Sold For: $275       Color: Light Aqua

A great companion for lot 63!

CD-134 - DIAMOND P       Sold For: $374       Color: Green

1" factory potstone bruise near the left mold line, 1/2" wire ridge flake, otherwise about very near mint. Typically the Diamond P and Pennycuick styles have some amount of impurities in the glass. This one is unusual in that the glass is very transparent and shiny!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - AM. INSULATOR CO.       Sold For: $83       Color: Light Green Aqua w/ Milk Glob
1/8" wire ridge flake, otherwise very, very near mint. There's a nice 1" wide band of milky impurity running from the skirt up to the top of the pinhole. There's also a white ring at the base of the threads. See view 3. This may be sand that was left over from the raw materials, but in any case it's an interesting oddity.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - AM. INSULATOR CO.       Sold For: $550       Color: Light Aqua w/ Milk & Amber
1/4" and two 1/8" wire ridge flakes, other easily very near mint. Fantastic milky impurities and amber swirls are prominent in the skirt, especially in the front. A couple of 1/4" bubbles add even more interest. A tremendous swirled American!

CD-134 - DIAMOND P       Sold For: $352       Color: Deep Green Aqua
3/8" and 1/4" wire ridge flakes, an area of scuffing on the dome, hard to see 1" fracture inside the pinhole. The date of his patent, August 11, 1885, is embossed on the rear. There's good clarity in the glass, which is uncommon in "Diamond P" insulators, highlighting the bright coloration.

CD-134 - T-H.E. CO.       Sold For: $396       Color: Glowing Lime Green
Three 3/8" base flakes and a little roughness at the base of the skirt, otherwise about very near mint. Produced by Brookfield for the Thomson-Houston Electric Company. What a great color, leaning towards Depression Glass Green! There is even some milk swirling in the front skirt. A great companion for lot 54, and a unique and desirable color!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - T-H.E. CO.       Sold For: $963       Color: Root Beer Amber
A few dings and a dome scuff. This is certainly one of the best in terms of condition, as many have base flakes, open bubbles and chipping, which are fortunately all missing in this insulator. In 1883 the company whose name is embossed on this insulator, Thomson-Houston Electric Company of Boston, MA, established themselves as a distributor of electrical supplies. Brookfield was likely the glasshouse commissioned to produce these beautiful signals by T-H.E. Co. This outstanding example is a great companion for lot 55, and a very rare color in unusually good condition!

CD-134 - HEMINGRAY / MADE IN U.S.A. // No 18       Sold For: $121       Color: Hemingray Blue
Very good condition. This is the rare dome variant with a CD 134 base and a CD 162 dome. These are often incorrectly identified, and a true example like this is hard to find. This is the only embossing and color in which they are known. The dome diameter perfectly matches the CD 162 with the same embossing. If you look at the top of the upper wire groove, you can see a rough area followed by the smooth molding of the dome. This is the tell tale sign of the hybrid style. A unique and hard to find addition for the Hemingray collector!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - FALL RIVER POLICE SIGNAL       Sold For: $231       Color: Light Aqua
Easily grades very near mint. The always popular "FALL RIVER" insulators were manufactured by Brookfield on special order for the city of Fall River, Massachusetts to identify the police call box lines, and that's the only place they have been discovered. Lot 49, the CITY FIRE ALARM signal, has the same provenance. A unique piece for sure!

CD-134 - DIAMOND P       Sold For: $578       Color: Foamy Milky Icy Limey Green
Several small flakes on the wire ridge, 1/4" flake. Most Diamond P's are well made and the glass is very transparent. This one is filled with small bubbles and milky impurities that you don't often see in these pieces. A great New England piece with character!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - DIAMOND P       Sold For: $853       Color: Yellowy Green Vaseline
One fracture up and over the dome, and a second fracture down from the crown. Wait, but the color on this piece is stunning! The vaseline gives the insulator a distinctive presence, and one can see some opalescence as well. A piece like this is rarely seen for sale. Here is a chance to get an amazing Diamond P for a fraction of the price of one in very near mint condition; it's truly a fantastic piece of glass!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - DIAMOND P       Sold For: $798       Color: Green

The date of his patent, August 11, 1885, is embossed on the rear. A very attractive and desirable shade of green to contrast with your aqua pieces!

CD-134 - DIAMOND P       Sold For: $688       Color: Icy Blue Aqua

CD-134 - PATENT DEC. 19       Sold For: $143       Color: Light Lemon w/ Milky Worms
Very near mint. A nice milky worm winds its way up from the front skirt, around the wire ridge, up and over the pinhole, and back down in the rear. A very attractive color for this early Hemingray style. (#3132)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - PATENT DEC. 19       Sold For: $55       Color: Rich Deep "Hemingray Blue"
Easily grades very near mint. This variant has an "A" on the dome. The beautiful, saturated color of this insulator approaches the Hemingray blue color associated with later Hemingray insulators, and increases its desirability. When seen side by side with lot 54, the drip pointed variant, you'll want to add them both to your collection! (#3107)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - PATENT DEC. 19       Sold For: $72       Color: Rich "Hemingray Blue"
About very near mint. This strong and bright blue color is very close to the Hemingray blue coloration more often seen in later Hemingray insulators. It looks great side by side with lot 51, the smooth base variety! (#3139)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - PATENT DEC. 19       Sold For: $105       Color: Clear
3/4" area of thin base flakes, otherwise very very near mint. The traditional low quality glass formula tended to make "aqua" glass, so it is unusual to find such an early clear piece. The bubbly nature of the glass adds even more character! (#3120)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - PATENT DEC. 19       Sold For: $66       Color: Rich Apple Green
3 skirt chips, 1" wire ridge chip, many chipped drips. If you look at this insulator side by side with lot 52, the difference in color becomes even more apparent. What a pair of early Hemingrays! (#3115)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - PATENT DEC. 19       Sold For: $66       Color: Bright Lime Green
1" base bruise on the rear skirt, three 1/4" wire ridge flakes, drip chipping. Looking at this insulator side by side with lot 53, the difference in color becomes even more clear; what a pair of early Hemingrays! (#3146)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - HEMINGRAY // No 18       Sold For: $121       Color: Aqua/Green Two Tone
Perhaps a half dozen chipped drips. There are some pronounced folds in the glass, one of which can be seen on the right side of the skirt. Hemingrays with a little bit of amber streaking aren't uncommon, those with more streaks and swirls are less common, and those with such distinct color separation are quite rare. The amber in the upper part of the glass creates an insulator with a green dome and an aqua skirt. It's unusual to see this in any insulator, and its presence in a Hemingray No 18 adds even more to the desirability! (#0105)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - FALL RIVER POLICE SIGNAL       Sold For: $253       Color: Light Aqua
Just a few pings away from mint. These insulators were manufactured by Brookfield on special order for the city of Fall River, Massachusetts to identify the police call box lines and are very popular. A unique piece embossed "FALL RIVER" which is the only place these have been discovered. See lot 39 for the City Fire Alarm signal. (#0403)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - DIAMOND P       Sold For: $633       Color: Bright Glowing Apple Green
Two small areas of wire ridge flaking on the rear, otherwise very very near mint. It is likely that the "P in a diamond" logo refers to James Pennycuick, who designed a unique method for "forming screw threads on glass" while leaving the plunger in place during annealing. The date of his patent, August 11, 1885, is embossed on the rear. A stunning color, much more desirable than the typical aqua shades, and standing out more than even your basic green examples! (#0401)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - DIAMOND P       Sold For: $308       Color: Fizzy, Milky, Snowy Aqua
The only significant damage is a base chip in the front. It is likely that the "P in a diamond" logo refers to James Pennycuick, who designed a unique method for "forming screw threads on glass" while leaving the plunger in place during annealing. The date of his patent, August 11, 1885, is embossed on the rear. This piece has some of everything: small fizzy bubbles, larger elongated bubbles, "snow" (pieces of fire brick), and even milky veils well-centered in the front! All of these characteristics add up to give the insulator a jade-like appearance. A fantastic character piece that you rarely see, so don't miss your opportunity to own this beauty! (#0400)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - DIAMOND P       Sold For: $462       Color: Translucent Limey Green
A shallow 1" area of chipping on the rear wire ridge, otherwise very near mint. It is likely that the "P in a diamond" logo refers to James Pennycuick, who designed a unique method for "forming screw threads on glass" while leaving the plunger in place during annealing. The date of his patent, August 11, 1885, is embossed on the rear. The presence of milk and fizz in the glass give this already rare insulator a translucent, light vaseline quality, heightening its desirability. Pennycuick collectors, and especially Diamond P specialists, take note! (#0102)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - DIAMOND P       Sold For: $660       Color: Translucent Limey Green w/ Large Bubble
2 flakes on the wire ridge, otherwise about very near mint. It is likely that the "P in a diamond" logo refers to James Pennycuick, who designed a unique method for "forming screw threads on glass" while leaving the plunger in place during annealing. The date of his patent, August 11, 1885, is embossed on the rear. This piece has two great characteristics going for it. First, it is filled with fizzy bubbles, giving it a translucent appearance. Second, there's a 1 1/4" bubble nearly centered over the "Diamond P." An air pocket on top of the threads creates the illusion of a second bubble. How many "Diamond Ps" have you seen with a bubble this big? This example is worth a premium! (#0402)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - BROOKFIELD       Sold For: $110       Color: Green/Amber Mix
Outstanding condition! Distinct patches of olive amber contrast with green areas, creating an artistic effect. There is even a patch of aqua in the front skirt at the base, as can be seen in the photo. The swirling on all sides of the insulator can be seen in view 2, view 3 and view 4. For the specialist, note this example contains the "BROOKFIFLD" spelling error, adding even more to its uniqueness and desirability! (#2926)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - PATENT DEC. 19       Sold For: $88       Color: Purple Tint

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - DIAMOND P       Sold For: $688       Color: Green
3/8" flake on the upper wire groove, otherwise very good condition. The P in a diamond logo probably refers to James Pennycuick, who designed a unique method for "forming screw threads on glass." See lot 50 for a contrasting shade of green! (#0922)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - DIAMOND P       Sold For: $550       Color: Light Blue Aqua
3/4" fissure in the dome, otherwise very good condition. There is what appears to be a very strong ghost-embossed "Diamond P" on the crown to the right of center; however, the "P" is mirror-imaged which means it was caused via impact with another insulator already removed from the mold, making it NOT a ghost embossing! A very unique piece! (#0921)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - CALIFORNIA       Sold For: $330       Color: Blue Aqua
Factory mint with an open bubble at the base of the threads. A nice veil of variously-sized bubbles can be seen flowing down the left crown! A tough California CD to acquire! (#2998)

A small fracture going up from the base possibly happened during annealing. An area of flaking on the wire ridge, potstone bruise and a little dome scuffing. A great color, and a great companion for the other Pennycuicks in this auction! (#3093)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - PATENT DEC. 19       Sold For: $176       Color: Steel Blue
Drips are perfect! A small skirt flake and a couple of pecks on the wire ridge are hardly worth mentioning. The drips, especially in the front, are so tipped in that the insulator rests on the side rather than the tip, creating an interesting beaded effect at the base of the skirt, especially prominent in the front as can be seen in the photo. What an outstanding, rarely encountered color for this insulator! (#3150)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - PATENT DEC. 19       Sold For: $1,018       Color: Brilliant Glowing Depression Glass Green

A crude Pennycuick piece with some typical flaking at the base of the threads. 1/4" flake on the upper wire ridge and a potstone inclusion, both at the right mold line, the rest about VNM. The fizz and milk give this an unusual translucent appearance. The initials may have stood for "Cambridge Electric Light Company," a supplier of electrical equipment, but this is not confirmed. A great companion piece for lot 63! (#2996)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-134 - BROOKFIELD       Sold For: $33       Color: Bright Yellowy Green
A clean 1 1/2" wide bruise on the rear base, otherwise about perfect! A great color for this classic old Brookfield! (#2937)

CD-134 - PATENT DEC. 19       Sold For: $3,410       Color: Olive Green
Some base and thread flaking. This is a stunning piece; a rare, standout color for your 1871 collection! Patrick Moylan, a CD 134 1871 specialist, writes "I feel it's vastly underrated in both beauty of color and rarity; equally as rare as amber 7s, rarer than amber 8s, smooth base purple 162s or peacock 164s. It's such an odd color for Hemingray." We agree! (#3130)
