CD-136 - B & O Sold For: $121 Color: Ice Green w/ Bubbles
While one can see a little "fizz" in the glass, what stands out are 4 larger bubbles which are up to 1/2" long. Some smaller bubbles are also present. 1/8" wire ridge flake in the rear, BB ding by the right mold line, otherwise easily very near mint. Some "B & O" insulators were made by Brookfield, but this example was clearly produced by Hemingray: note the DEC.19.1871 patent date. At the annual meeting of the Baltimore & Ohio Telegraph Company in 1884, it was reported that the system represented 6,886 miles of poles and 47,417 miles of wire. A nice example of this style! UPDATE: Extended damage report: View 3 shows a little crazing on the dome, view 4 shows a 1/8" flake on the wire ridge above the "P," and view 5 shows the BB ding, a little less than 1/4" in diameter. These photos are not color corrected but darker to try and show the damage more clearly.

CD-136 - B & O Sold For: $165 Color: Light Green
The Hemingray collectors would probably turn this to the "PATENT DEC 19, 1871" side, however technically the front is "B & O". This combination of embossings indicates that Hemingray produced this insulator. [UPDATE: Correction: The prevailing opinion is that the glass CD136 B&O pieces made by Brookfield and Hemingray were produced for the B&O Telegraph Company which was a B&O Railroad subsidiary and was in business from around 1879 until 1888. Thank you Chris Renaudo!] A 1/8" ding on the upper wire ridge, otherwise very near mint. A nice find for those who collect railroad-embossed insulators.

CD-136 - B & O Sold For: $110 Color: Light Green Aqua
Very near mint. Made for the Baltimore and Ohio Telegraph Company. Many of these were produced by Brookfield, but the embossing "PATENT DEC 19, 1871" indicates this insulator was made by Hemingray.

CD-136 - B & O / W. BROOKFIELD Sold For: $743 Color: Limey Apple Green
Shallow 3/8" skirt flake, otherwise about very, very near mint! Somewhat crudely made with some swirls in the skirt and a neat 1/2" black inclusion in the glass with an associated factory stress mark. Made for the Baltimore and Ohio Telegraph Company by Brookfield, most of the green CD 136's were reportedly found along the Santa Fe Railroad in Texas! They rarely come up for sale so here's your chance!

CD-136 - B & O / DEC.19.1871 Sold For: $660 Color: Glowing Bright Depression Glass Green
1" ridge chip as can be seen in the photo. 3/4" open bubble in the rear but no associated chipping around it. 1" clean bruise on the wire ridge in the rear. Some dings and scuffs here and there. What will strike you is the incredible bright glowing green color, and the thick glass amplifies it! Some "B & O" insulators were produced by Brookfield, but this example is clearly produced by Hemingray: note the DEC.19.1871 patent date. At the annual meeting of the Baltimore & Ohio Telegraph Company in 1884, it was reported that the system represents 6,886 miles of poles and 47,417 miles of wire. This insulator is even more impressive when you see it in person; it's a truly stunning color! Don't pass this opportunity by!

CD-136 - W. BROOKFIELD Apple Green Sold For: $385 Color: Apple Green
In the rear, a wire ridge flake and a stress fracture at the base. This variant has the backwards "N's" in "N.Y." and "JAN". Produced for the Baltimore & Ohio (B & O) Railroad. Toot! Toot! (#3259)
