Open Wire - Visit

CD-141.7 - Twiggs       Sold For: $3,300       Color: Light sun colored amethyst.
Only 13 examples of this rare insulator are known to exist. This unique design incorporated two balls that were placed in the top center slot, and then wedged into place in opposing directions to secure the wire. It appears none of the known examples were ever placed into working service. The odd, unconventional design was likely found to be problematic and it's speculated that only a few samples, or prototypes, were manufactured by the inventor, W.R. Twiggs. All of the original examples were manufactured in clear glass containing manganese dioxide. The consignor exposed this example to the natural UV rays of the sun to produce this light sun colored amethyst shade. At least two or three Twiggs insulators have been transformed to a natural sun-colored amethyst while in the hands of collectors. Most of the 13 known in both clear and sca have become entrenched into private collections. This eye-catching insulator, at over 4-1/2 tall, is in wonderful condition and displays beautifully.

Bill & Jill Insulators - Next Auction: Coming Soon

CD-141.7 - TWIGGS       Sold For: $2,530       Color: Crystal Clear
Factory mint. All of the Twiggs insulators were discovered with their bases ground flat. In this case, that procedure produced a 1" tall flake up from the base and a little base flaking. The Twiggs units in general were very well molded. This one is a bit unusual in that the pinhole is oval and off-center, and there is an underpour at the base. The Twiggs is a unique style that is coveted by collectors. It is also unusual in that it is "top heavy" with the "dome" being significantly larger in diameter than the base. The Twiggs is quite tall and will command a visual presence in your lineup of more traditionally shaped insulators! (#0228)

Bill & Jill Insulators - Next Auction: Coming Soon

CD-141.7 - TWIGGS       Sold For: $3,960       Color: Crystal Clear
Typical light base grinding and an underpour. Although a dozen of these came on the market in 2005 they are now "locked away" in collections. When will one become available again? They are a very unique and desirable insulator! Who else but William Twiggs would think that a marble could wedge a tie-wire into the wire groove? (#3301)
