 | We believe this to be a "Whittle Mold" although it does not have the texture normally associated with them. One can see spiraling amber swirls above the pinhole in the thick dome glass. The pinhole is also very off-center. Both of these add interest to this insulator. 1/2" wire ridge flake, some areas of wire ridge chatter, 1/2" base flake, a little chatter on the base. Something other than your basic "Green" to add to your collection. |

 | For the specialist, this is the [070] embossing where the periods are shaped like prisms. This is an attractive color for these Canadian beehives. Several large bubbles float around in the dome. 1" skirt fracture in the middle of the rear skirt. The Canadian Northern Railway (CNoR) was established in 1899 and merged into the Canadian National Railway (CN) in 1923. This is a nice example of Canadian railroad history! |

 | CD 143 No Embossing Canada (120) Blue. This Withycombe has both great color and is in excellent condition. Usually there is at least some amount of wear on those vertical ridges. One this example, I can only see a single nick above and another nick below the wire groove. There are two, tiny, partially open bubbles on the sharp inside edge of the base. And there's a teeny flake at the end of the seam line at the base caused when the insulator was removed from the mold. That's nit-picky stuff. This is a choice |

This example has a vivid light yellowish green colour, and the wire groove has slumped somewhat during manufacture. Some milk and steam swirls around the pinhole offer extra character. Excellent condition for this damage-prone style with only a few tiny nibbles around the sharp outer base edge, and a few tiny fleabites on the sides of the crown. |

 | This deep aqua prism period C.N.R. CD 143 is a base aqua colour with abundant amber swirls throughout. It appears to have a two tone effect at first glance, with the skirt being dominantly green and the dome aqua. Upon closer examination the amber swirls appear. In good condition with one medium sized flat flake on the left side of the base and a flake on the farthest right prism period. |

 | {Double threaded} One can clearly see the steep pitch of the threads which is characteristic of double threaded insulators. The two thread starting points at the top of the pinhole are on opposite sides of the pinhole. Double threading is rarely seen, and has only been found on some unembossed CD 120 and CD 143 insulators. A number of flakes on the base, some deep flakes on the mold lines, numerous dings and flakes all around. Despite the condition, this displays nicely and will fit into your Canadian "beehive" collection! |

 | You can see milk swirls all the way around the insulator, setting it apart from a typical Blue example! However, what makes it especially unusual is a large area of graphite, covering more than 3/4" by 1/2". It's visible from all angles and a direct view of it can be seen in view 3! 3/8" wire ridge flake, two 1/8" skirt flakes, otherwise easily very near mint. The slug plate makes the script embossing stand out more. This is the variant with the bar in the third "A" missing. There's a lot going on in this piece, but the patch of graphite is what really sets this off from other examples! |

 | This is a stunning green insulator which is embossed "MONTREAL TELEGRAPH" on the front skirt and "CO" on the rear skirt. In addition to the rare color, there is a milky glob on the left rear of the skirt with a milk ribbon that follows the wire groove and flows up to the dome, centered in the rear. The angular line that you see in the rear is just a fold in the glass. Quite a desirable color for this insulator, especially in this excellent condition! |

 | This is the less common variation with "GREAT NORTHWESTERN TELEGRAPH CO." fully spelled out, and it wraps around the entire skirt. What is interesting about this insulator is that there are some pronounced milk swirls in the skirt that make a full wrap or more around the pinhole. They then travel up to the middle of the insulator where the milk is thick enough to create a translucent effect, to the top of the pinhole which is transparent glass. 1/4" wire ridge chip, 1/4" dome bruise, otherwise about very near mint. A great character piece! |

CD-143 - DWIGHT PATTERN Sold For: $1,760 Color: Deep Light Purple
 | Excellent condition! Harvey Prentice Dwight, while born in Belleville, NY, became heavily involved in the telegraph industry in Canada, from the last half of the 1800s to the early years of the 1900s, beginning in Belleville, Ontario. The "DWIGHT PATTERN" variation of the CD 143 is quite a bit shorter than a "standard" example. The embossing is very off-center on this insulator. The main view actually has the right mold line facing you and you can clearly see the embossing on either side. The front and rear of the insulator can be seen in view 2 and view 3. This insulator is a beautiful shade of deep purple, somewhere between light purple and medium purple. A very rare and desirable color for this piece, seldom seen for sale! (#0148) |
