CD-158 - PATENT OCT 15       Sold For: $352       Color: Blue w/ Milk EIN: [010]
This is the much less common {three segmented threads} variant which is a CD 136.7 with an inner skirt. On October 15, 1872 Samuel Oakman was granted two patents for improving the plunger that forms the insulator threads. One created threads with three segments and the other created four segments. During the molding of this insulator, a large impurity in the glass at the base caused both 1" and 2" fractures and a 1/4" base chip. Some little pings and dings and flakes, consistent with being dug. A desirable insulator for the Boston Bottle Works collector!

CD-158 - BOSTON BOTTLE WORKS       Sold For: $418       Color: Blue Aqua w/ Amber Strings EIN: [010]
While this insulator doesn't have as much amber as the solid amber example we sold in our last auction, it does have a few nice strings of amber flowing down over the pinhole and around part of the skirt. An underpour on the inner skirt obscures part of "BOSTON" and all of "BOTTLE WORKS". 3" horizontal fracture at the base of the inner skirt, otherwise very near mint. This insulator shares the unusual characteristics of many of the "Boston" styles. There are four segmented threads in the pinhole. The embossing is on the base of the inner skirt. There are six sloped facets that form the crown. Any insulator with the "BOSTON BOTTLE WORKS" embossing is desirable. The amber strands make this one unique!

CD-158 - BOSTON BOTTLE WORKS       Sold For: $1,045       Color: Blue Aqua
Stylish "hex head" design with six sloping panels forming the crown area. 1/4" ridge flake, otherwise very near mint. Add this classic to your collection now!

CD-158 - BOSTON BOTTLE WORKS       Sold For: $16,775       Color: Dark Orange Amber
No damage on the base of the inner skirt, which is boldly embossed "BOSTON BOTTLE WORKS / PATENT APPLIED FOR". 1/8" base bubble and flake at the mold line and a little high-point wear, otherwise very, very, near mint. [UPDATE: view 3 shows the base bubble and flaking. A little more than 1/4" wide. View 4 shows it from the inside. Factory defect from an enclosed bubble on the inner skirt.] An absolutely stunning insulator in fantastic condition! We recently had the privilege of selling another CD 158 amber "Boston" four years ago for over $16,000. That example had a 1" chip on the inner skirt. Also, contrast that example with the "wide wire groove" in Dark Yellow Amber, with this item, which is the "narrow wire groove" variant in Dark Orange Amber. This insulator shares the unusual characteristics of many of the "Boston" styles. There are four segmented threads in the pinhole. The embossing is on the base of the inner sk

CD-158 - PATENT OCT. 15       Sold For: $908       Color: Blue Aqua
An odd variant with three segmented threads rather than four. This is a CD 136.7 with an inner skirt. Both pieces have three segmented threads and Samuel Oakman's "OCT. 15, 1872" patent embossed on the inner skirt. Two 1/4" base flakes. May have been lightly tumble cleaned. Some typical little dings and scuffs likely from being dug. For its cousin, the embossed BOSTON BOTTLE WORKS, see lot 87. A unique six-sided dome!

CD-158 - BOSTON BOTTLE WORKS       Sold For: $743       Color: Light Blue Aqua
Strongly embossed on the bottom of the inner skirt "BOSTON BOTTLE WORKS - PATENT APPLIED FOR." A number of small dings and pings but par for the course for an insulator that was likely dug. For its cousin see lot 88. Always a desirable marking!

CD-158 - BOSTON BOTTLE WORKS       Sold For: $715       Color: Blue
This is the less common "wide groove" variant. All of the segmented threads are in great condition. An 1/8" inner skirt chip removes the "KS" from "WORKS"; some small pings and flakes here and there. Boldly embossed "BOSTON BOTTLE WORKS / PATENT APPLIED FOR" on the bottom of the inner skirt, a trademark of "Bostons" and an unusual area for the embossing to appear. Own one of the classic "Bostons"!

CD-158 - BOSTON BOTTLE WORKS       Sold For: $660       Color: Light Aqua
{Four segmented threads} {Narrow wire groove} All Boston insulators have segmented threads. Most are marked with "PATENT APPLIED FOR" on the base of the threads or on the base of the inner skirt. Some styles list Samuel Oakman's October 15, 1872 patent date for "Improvement in Formers for Segmentally Screw Threaded Insulators". This unique style with six sloping flat panels on the crown is similar to CD 158.2 in lot 116. A classic and desirable early Boston insulator!

CD-158 - BOSTON BOTTLE WORKS       Sold For: $16,225       Color: Dark Yellow Amber
1" inner skirt chip removes "B PATEN" in the embossing, 1/4" wire ridge flake as seen on the right side in view 2, very minor dings. As is the case with the "Baby Teapot" in lot 1, we are showing you detailed photos of the condition so you know exactly what you are bidding on. This is an exceptionally rare item in a phenomenal color.
