Bill & Jill Insulators - Next Auction: Coming Soon

SI-162 - MCLAUGHLIN       Sold For: $319       Color: White Milk w/ Various Color Swirls
Most of the McLaughlin commemoratives are well-formed, but this one clearly slumped after it was removed from the mold. There are a number of colored swirls, however most of them are fairly muted in color. 1/8" open bubble on the rear skirt. An interesting oddity for the McLaughlin commemorative collector!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - STAR       Sold For: $132       Color: Blue w/ Ice Chips
There is an unusual area on the dome where there is some impurity that isn't round or like a piece of firebrick. There are five or six distinct chunks, approximately 1/4" each in size, that appear to be "frozen" together. Quite an unusual oddity! Not to be outdone, there are also areas of a dark black impurity at the left mold line from below the lower wire ridge to above the upper wire ridge. While one may have seen some of this black impurity in other insulators, we have never seen anything like these "ice crystals" which are easily visible when backlit. A few little imperfections here and there. An eye-catching addition to your collection; how do you price something as unusual as this?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - No 19       Sold For: $578       Color: Milky Cobalt Blue
This is the unusual variant with only the "No 19" embossing although it is clearly produced by Hemingray. There is a little milk in the insulator, giving it a bit of a translucent effect. We can't see any damage, but just to be safe we won't call it MINT. For color and condition this is a top notch piece!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - N de M       Sold For: $297       Color: Straw Tint
The embossing on this insulator isn't close to any of the existing listings in the Price Guide. We would describe it as: "(F-Skirt) N de M (R-Skirt) [Blotted out embossing] SDP." It may have a blot out on the dome but we can't say for sure. 1/8" dome ding, a base flake that affects 2 drip points, 3/4" area of chatter on the inner skirt. These insulators were produced for Ferrocarriles Nacionales de Mexico, Mexico's railroad. There are some amber veils in the thick dome glass. An unusual embossing variant with extra character in the dome, and a nice insulator for the Mexican collector!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - LYNCHBURG       Sold For: $319       Color: Green w/ Amber Blending
This is an attractive coloration with areas of amber as well as swirls of amber throughout the entire insulator! An uncommon variation, especially in this fine condition!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $154       Color: 7-up Green
Your quintessential 7-up Green signal! Hemingray produced a number of 7-up Green pieces: CD 106, CD 122, CD 162, CD 214 and the ultra-rare CD 137 and CD 160. 1/8" inner skirt chip, otherwise it's in wonderful condition. A bright colorful Green for your signal collection!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $578       Color: Clear/Blue Two Tone
This is an attractive "two tone" example with about a 50-50 split of color! The strongest color is slightly to the rear of the left mold line. Easily very near mint. A "must have" for the Hemingray or signal collector!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $209       Color: Whiskey Amber
This is a little different shade of amber than is typically encountered. 1" skirt chip and about 3 chipped drip points, otherwise excellent condition. This distinctive shade will fit in with your other amber signals!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $110       Color: Dark Orange Amber
Although fairly dark, one can see some color in the pinhole and more in the skirt. Just 2 chipped drip points! This will fit in well at the dark end of your amber lineup!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $396       Color: Orange Amber
A classic Hemingray color! An excellent example, especially in this outstanding condition, and it will fit in well with your other amber signals!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $231       Color: Cobalt Blue
A classic Cobalt Blue! 4-drip-point-wide bruise affects 4 drip points in the front, 3 chipped drip points in the rear, otherwise easily very near mint. A desirable color that no signal collection should be without!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $140       Color: Root Beer Amber
Only damage seems to be several drip points are shaved or chipped. Displays well

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $2,310       Color: Yellow Amber
What a fantastic color! These colorful smooth base signals are worth significantly more than their drip-pointed counterparts. View 3 shows the insulator in comparison to a CD 162 H.G.CO. in True Yellow (not in the auction) to show that this insulator is quite close to Yellow. 3/4" chip on the rear upper wire ridge, otherwise the piece is in wonderful condition. This is a stunning jewel to add to your signal collection!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $908       Color: Lavender
This pleasing color has a little more blue than a Light Purple example, giving it a more distinctive hue. 1/2" chip on the upper wire ridge, 2-drip-point-wide bruise, a few flaked or chipped drip points, otherwise very near mint. A tweener color that will fit well in your signal lineup!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $198       Color: Electric Blue
This is another desirable shade of blue! 1 1/4" bruise in the front affects 2 drip points, 1" bruise in the rear, 3 chipped drip points. Classic and distinctive!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $578       Color: Clear
It's quite unusual to find old glass like this in Clear! It is also "transition embossed", meaning at one time the base of the mold was smooth rather than drilled to produce drip points and the "PATENT MAY 2 1893" was added later. 1/2" bruise on the wire ridge near the left mold line, 1" bruise on the wire ridge in the rear, 1/4" base bruise on the rear; the rest of the insulator is in excellent condition and the drip points are perfect! A very difficult signal to acquire and a key piece for the advanced signal collector!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - CALIFORNIA       Sold For: $121       Color: Deep Burgundy
Extra dome glass helps to show off the rich color! Lots of creases and folds on the front skirt add interest. Some flaking on an overpoured base, some small dings and scuffs here and there. A nice color for the California signal collector!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - BROOKFIELD       Sold For: $44       Color: Snowy Aqua
This insulator shows off an impressive array of snow and a few bubbles when front lit, and still has a nice presentation when backlit! 3 areas of roughness on the sharp inside of the outer skirt. An attractive insulator that will stand out among the others in your Brookfield lineup!

Eagle Cap Collectables - Next Auction: Coming Soon

CD-162 - W.G.M. Purple       Sold For: $65
CD 162 W.G.M. (010) Purple. Nice depth of color.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - Star Yellow Olive Mustard       Sold For:
CD 162 Star (010) Yellow Olive Mustard. Scarce color with yellow olive base and more of a mustard look in the dome.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - Star Olive Green w/ Amber Highlights       Sold For: $20
CD 162 Star (010) Olive Green w/ Amber Highlights. The glass lets a lot of light through and the insulator looks amazing in a window sill.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - N.E.G.M. Apple Green       Sold For: $130
CD 162 N.E.G.M. (010) Apple Green with faint amber in dome. Has numerous bubbles and lots of white milky spots in the glass.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - Multi-Colored Star       Sold For: $30
CD 162 Star (010) Multi-Colored Insulator. There are a few small areas of aqua… lots of green… and then it's loaded with highlights of amber swirls & splotches in various shades and intensity. The dramatic color separations make the insulator even more noticeable. In addition to the great color, the dome is slightly indented where the straw lines come together in

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - McLaughlin Slag Glass Commemorative       Sold For: $800
CD 162 McLaughlin Commemorative in White, Reddish Orange, Yellow, Green & Blue Colors. William McLaughlin himself made this item in 1972 to commemorative the 75th anniversary of the first insulators he produced at Robert Good's factory in Denver, Colorado in 1897. He made 672 commemoratives including 150 in milk glass, 72 in red milk, and 450 swirled insulators. This is one of the more dynamic examples. This one is also distinctive in that the base is unevenly formed as evidenced in

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - Lynchburg Ginger Ale       Sold For: $45
CD 162 Lynchburg (100) Ginger Ale. Interesting insulator. Appears to have been from an altered mold. The bottom of letters on the front, and the U.S.A are pressed out. Look at the far right of the skirt in

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - Hemingray Sage Green       Sold For: $110
CD 162 Hemingray 070) Sage Green. Beautiful and somewhat elusive color.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - Hemingray Mustard Yellow Amber       Sold For: $260
CD 162 Hemingray (040) Mustard Yellow Amber. Not quite a true mustard, the color leans a bit towards yellow amber. Would be a good 'tweener for your line-up of colored signals.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - Hemingray Mint Green       Sold For: $120
CD 162 Hemingray (070) Mint Green.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - Hemingray Golden Amber       Sold For: $280
CD 162 Hemingray (220) Golden Amber. This example has a much larger and heavier upper wire ridge as shown in

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - Hemingray Forest Green Short & Squatty       Sold For: $410
CD 162 Hemingray (070) Forest Green. This insulator had some weight piled on it while the glass was still warm. As a result, it is short, squatty, and much wider at the base than normal. The drip points, instead of being sharp, are flat. See

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - Hemingray Electric Blue       Sold For: $260
CD 162 Hemingray (260) Electric Blue. The insulator has a considerable number of tiny white potstones; a few that are larger; and some scattered bubbles.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - Hemingray Dark Red Amber       Sold For: $130
CD 162 Hemingray (240) Dark Red Amber.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - Hemingray Dark Honey Amber       Sold For: $160
CD 162 Hemingray (110) Dark Honey Amber.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - Hemingray Dark Amber ' Not Your Typical Signal       Sold For: $45
CD 162 Hemingray (240) Dark Amber with Sealed Hare-lip Under Pour. The V Shaped lines in the center of the skirt are not fractures; but reflections from the edges of a hare-lip under pour that largely, but not entirely, filled. This type of under pour, it seems to me, is a bit unusual in Hemingray signals with drip points. In addition to the two under poured drip points, four others are flaked and there's a faint bruise above two of them.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - Hemingray Cobalt Blue       Sold For: $300
CD 162 Hemingray (220) Cobalt Blue.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - Hemingray Chewing Tobacco Amber       Sold For: $160
CD 162 Hemingray (240) Chewing Tobacco Amber. A mix of olive green and amber in this insulator creates a color that reminds me… not to gross you out… of chewing tobacco spit.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - Hemingray Bright Orange Amber       Sold For: $260
CD 162 Hemingray (090) Bright Orange Amber. Some collectors call this dramatic color tangerine orange. Note in

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - Hemingray Bright Cobalt Blue       Sold For: $875
CD 162 Hemingray (235 / 240) Bright Cobalt Blue. Lots to talk about with this one. Let's start with the Embossing Index Number. This insulator has almost entirely ROUND drip points. As the Price Guide notes with the (235) EIN, the round drip points are probably an under poured SDP. On this example, some of the drips in the middle are a bit longer, which makes the insulator lean to the side.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - Hemingray 7-Up Green       Sold For: $150
CD 162 Hemingray (130 Blot Out on Reverse) 7-Up Green.

CD 162 H.G. CO. (070) Whisky Amber.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G. CO. Super Milky Aqua       Sold For: $1,350
CD 162 H.G. CO. (070) Super Milky Aqua.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G. CO. Royal Purple       Sold For: $290
CD 162 H.G. CO. (070) Royal Purple. Beautiful, deep purple color. Chip on front removes part of the 8 and 9 of the patent date. There's a faint bruise above three flaked drip points on one side.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G. CO. Glowing Peacock Blue       Sold For: $430
CD 162 H.G. CO. (070) Glowing Peacock Blue. For me, peacock blue is the hardest color to accurately photograph. This insulator looks much nicer in person than my feeble efforts to capture its true color.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G. CO Glowing Tangerine Orange       Sold For: $200
CD 162 H.G. CO (070 Variant) Glowing Tangerine Orange. I called it a variant because there's no period after CO. Another point of interest, PETTICO is ghost embossed above the regular embossing on the reverse. As

CD 162 California (010) Plum. Beautiful, deep purple color. Has some nice straw marks over the dome as shown in

Bill & Jill Insulators - Next Auction: Coming Soon

SI-162 - MCLAUGHLIN       Sold For: $231       Color: Blue Milk w/ Slag
While many of the McLaughlin commemoratives have a white base color, this is more of a pale blue. The swirls are predominantly blue and amber, and there's a thick patch of amber in the front crown. Slight underpour at the left mold line, an open bubble on the rear base. This example has a little different coloring than normally encountered and should fill a hole in your commemorative collection!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - STAR       Sold For: $105       Color: Green w/ Two Pollywogs
A rarity with two large bullfrog pollywogs next to each other on the right side of the dome! (Some call these tadpoles). The heads measure from 1/4" to 3/8". Unusual overpour at the base has some flaking, otherwise a few minor blemishes here and there. You've seen one pollywog before, you may have seen two pollywogs before, but have you seen two bullfrog pollywogs in close proximity before? No? Then this is the piece for your junk-in-glass collection!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - No 19 {Hemingray product}       Sold For: $484       Color: Cobalt w/ Milk Swirls
The unusual embossing on this piece produced by Hemingray includes only the "No 19" but not the "HEMINGRAY". The coloration is a nice medium shade of Cobalt Blue. The insulator is translucent in some areas where there is a well-mixed concentration of milk, while in other places you can see milk swirls, especially in the skirt. What really sets this apart is that the damage-prone drip points are perfect and the insulator is in exceptional condition, which makes it worth a premium!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - N.E.G.M.CO.       Sold For: $121       Color: Yellowy Green
A number of bubbles, up to 1/8" in diameter or more, float around the entire insulator. Some even appear to have a silver coloration! 1/4" and 1/8" open bubbles on the base with no associated chipping, a few dings here and there. Also interesting is the deformed inner skirt, which forms an oval. This signal was produced by the New England Glass Manufacturing Company, which created a lot of neat oddities for the hobby!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - MCLAUGHLIN       Sold For: $94       Color: Bright Apple Green
McLaughlin signals come in a plethora of Green shades and some of them are difficult to name. This is a nice bright shade in very near mint condition!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $176       Color: Dark Yellow Green
This rich color still passes light easily! Two 3/8" and one 1/4" inner skirt flakes/chips, 1/4" ding/flake on the front upper wire ridge, several chipped drip points, otherwise very near mint. A great complement to the Olive Green signal in lot 113!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $633       Color: Olive Green
This is a nice color! 1/2" bubble behind the "1893". It appears that a chunk of the mold broke off on the inside of the outer skirt, leaving a raised area of glass that merged with a couple of the drip points near the mold line. A great complement to the Dark Yellow Green signal in lot 111. A very good example of this color, especially in this excellent condition!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $209       Color: Dark Red Amber
This dark color still passes some light in the skirt and threads. About a half dozen chipped drip points, otherwise easily very near mint. This example will fit in well with your other amber signals!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $132       Color: Hemingray Blue/Green Two Tone
The insulator has nice color separation in the front skirt going around into the wire ridge at the left mold line! The Green covers about one quarter of the skirt. 1/8" ding on the dome, otherwise easily very near mint. Add this to your signal collection!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $798       Color: Orange Amber
Orange Amber is always a popular color! Factory mint with a bit of roughness around half the dome, some of which can be seen near the front right mold line. A classic Hemingray color!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $352       Color: Bright Whiskey Amber
Note the large backwards "1" on the dome. 1 1/2" bruise on the rear affects 1 drip point, an inward slice affects 3 drip points, otherwise very near mint. A nice color in the spectrum of amber 162s for your lineup!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $198       Color: Dark Orange Amber
Although this insulator is quite dark, one can see some color through the threads. 1/4" flake at the right mold line, 2 chipped drip points, both in the rear. This will fit in at the darker end of your amber spectrum!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $165       Color: 7-up Green
A rich, bright 7-up Green! 1/2" wire groove stress line, 1/4" skirt flake, 1/8" wire ridge ding, otherwise very near mint. A factory impurity can be seen on the lower wire ridge in the rear. This is an interesting embossing variant where "HEMINGRAY" is blotted out under "MADE IN U.S.A." For its lighter brother, see lot 115. An always popular color!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $198       Color: Whiskey Amber
A nice example of this color! About 8 chipped drip points, all in the rear. This Whiskey Amber signal will contrast well with your other amber examples and your greens as well!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $176       Color: Rich Green
1/2" stress line in the wire groove on the rear, a few little patches of roughness on the left front skirt. Drip points are perfect and the rest of the insulator looks really nice, too. For its darker brother, see lot 107. A great pair!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $275       Color: Electric Blue
This is a truly attractive blue signal! 1/2" skirt chip in the front, a few chipped drip points, otherwise easily very near mint. This colorful example will make a great addition for your signal collection!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $688       Color: Mulberry Purple
This color is a representation of the color of mulberry jam or pie. This was a Crayola crayon color from 1958 to 2003. The first recorded use of Mulberry as a color name in English was in 1776. What that means is that it's a little different color than your typical purple! 1" bruise on the right mold line affects 4 drip points, a slightly flat 1" diameter area of scuffing on the dome. A nice tweener color for your signal collection!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $94       Color: Icy Green w/ Milk Blob
An interesting blob of impurity right in the front and a few other smaller areas throughout the insulator. The smooth base units are less common than those produced later with drip points. 1/4" inner skirt chip, otherwise very, very near mint. A pleasing pastel shade with a bit of character!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - 1678       Sold For: $121       Color: Mulberry Purple/Clear Two Tone
This is an odd two tone where two thirds of the outer skirt is Clear! These are some serious drip points! Ouch! Small bruise affects about 6 drip points, an area of heavy flaking/chipping on the rear affects 5 drip points. The rest of the insulator remains in wonderful condition. Pair this with the CD 162.4 in lot 121 for a great duo!

Bill & Jill Insulators - Next Auction: Coming Soon

SI-162 - MCLAUGHLIN       Sold For: $578       Color: White Milk w/ Various Color Swirls
This is a stunning example of the colorful swirls that these commemorative insulators are known for! One can easily see blue, yellow, red and brown swirls. They run up and over the dome but zigzag in the wire groove and continue to the base. In 1972 William McLaughlin built a small glass factory in his garage, where he made commemorative insulators to celebrate the 75th anniversary of his start in the glass business. Each one of these insulators is unique, as they were produced in a variety of swirled and slag glass colors. Just look at the array of colors in the swirl that runs around the front of the insulator and around the dome, ending in a zigzag on the skirt! This mint insulator will be a very nice addition for the McLaughlin collector!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - W.F.G.CO.       Sold For: $209       Color: Dark Purple
The low pinhole of this insulator highlights the rich color in the dome and the skirt! Crudely made. 3/4" base flake, a few little dings and flakes here and there. The W.F.G. insulators were produced by the Western Flint Glass Company, which operated in Valverde, Colorado, on the outskirts of Denver. A great addition to your Denver collection!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - No 19 {Hemingray product}       Sold For: $440       Color: Cobalt Blue w/ Milk
This is the odd embossing without the "Hemingray" and with just the "No 19", however it was clearly produced by Hemingray! Some of these have a bit of a washed out coloration, however this example is nice and bright. There is a band of milk running across the entire back skirt and looping around the pinhole. This unusual embossing in outstanding condition is a keeper for sure!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - LYNCHBURG       Sold For: $55       Color: Blue w/ Milk Swirls
It's unusual to see these with milky swirls! The swirls are best seen base lit. For the specialty collector, this is the variation with "BROOKFIELD" blotted out on the rear skirt, and you can very clearly see the "D" from that blot out. However, there is also the mold number "6" on the rear skirt and the combination of the two doesn't seem to be listed in the 2023 Price Guide. The drip points are perfect and the rest of the insulator is very, very near mint. Unusual color, unlisted embossing, and wonderful condition make this a very desirable insulator.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $198       Color: Rich 7-up Green
Your quintessential 7-up Green signal! Hemingray produced a number of 7-up Green pieces: CD 106, CD 122, CD 162, CD 214 and the ultra-rare CD 137 and CD 160. This is an outstanding example of 7-up Green, in spectacular condition!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $253       Color: Forest Green
This signal is a beautiful, rich shade of green! There is a larger spectrum of green shades in many of the Hemingray styles than one might at first think, but when you look at the lineup you can really appreciate the range! This signal will fit in well with the other green signals in your collection, especially in this very, very near mint condition!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $418       Color: Carnival
This insulator was carnival-coated at the factory by spraying a liquid coating onto the hot glass, most likely to identify a particular line. The date code of 1934 is consistent with the production of Carnival insulators. 1/2" factory open crease on the dome, some carnival missing around the wire groove in a few areas. A nice example for your collection!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $798       Color: Orange Amber
The classic Hemingray Orange Amber, bright and well-saturated! This looks mint to us, but we'll call it very, very, very near mint to be conservative. An excellent color in outstanding condition!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $121       Color: Teal Blue
An uncommon rich color, this can be compared with the wing patch on the teal duck! 1 sheared drip point, a little scuff on the rear wire ridge and the dome, otherwise very near mint. This hard-to-find colorful addition to your signal collection contrasts well with the other examples we are offering; snag it before it flies away!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $275       Color: Light Cobalt Blue w/ Milk Swirl
A swirl of milk runs from the skirt up and over the pinhole to the wire groove! 1 1/4" fracture in the skirt, 7-drip-point-wide fracture in the right front. This will fit into your lineup of blue signals!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $743       Color: Rich Cobalt Blue
A stunning, well-saturated Cobalt Blue! This is a quintessential example of this very desirable coloration in truly outstanding condition. You can't go wrong with this insulator!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $50       Color: Green w/ Amber Swirls
A stunning mix of amber swirls run from the skirt to the dome! 1/2" skirt chip, 1" hard-to-see wire ridge scallop bruise. This attractive coloration blends the green and amber, and it will stand out in your lineup of greens!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $94       Color: Sage Green
A distinctive, lighter shade of green! A beautiful insulator, especially in this excellent condition, to add to your lineup of Hemingray signals!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $506       Color: Olive Amber
1/4" inner skirt flake, 4 chipped drip points, otherwise very near mint. A nice contrasting color for your signal lineup, fitting well between your green and amber signals!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $110       Color: Dark Red Amber
1/4" base flake, 2 chipped drip points, otherwise about very near mint. This rich, deep shade still passes light well, and will make a great ending to your run of amber signals!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $935       Color: Electric Peacock Blue
This shade of Peacock Blue has some Electric Blue overtones that make it a "tweener" between a True Peacock Blue and Electric Blue. In the rear you can see a "double bubble", neither of which is open nor affects the drip points. The insulator appeared mint, but after very close scrutiny for several minutes a tiny slice on one of the drip points was discovered. For a CD 151 with a similar color see lot 89. For an Electric Blue signal see lot 103. An unusual color, especially in this amazing and outstanding condition!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $715       Color: Purple
The middle variation of the three primary shades of Purple H.G.CO. signals. For the specialist, note this is the exact same mold as the Light Purple example shown in lot 106. For a Royal Purple member of this trio see lot 108. 1/2" chip affects 2 1/2 drip points, otherwise easily very near mint. A nice rich shade of purple!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $908       Color: Light Purple
The lightest of the three primary shades of Purple H.G.CO. signals. For the specialist, note this is the exact same mold as the Purple example in lot 107. For a Royal Purple H.G. signal see lot 108. Only a flake on one drip point; outstanding condition!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $990       Color: Royal Purple
The darkest and most desirable of the three primary shades of Purple H.G.CO. signals. This deep, rich color still passes some light in the threads. 2 chipped drip points, 1/4" wire ridge sliver, otherwise easily very near mint. For a Light Purple example see lot 106 and for a Purple one see lot 107. An outstanding and desirable color for your Purple lineup!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $1,375       Color: True Yellow
The classic and elusive True Yellow H.G.CO. signal! This is less common than its CD 162 Hemingray-19 counterpart. It can be hard to tell a True Yellow signal just by looking at it. We do not guess. We compare it to the reference True Yellow signals in our personal collection to see if it should get the moniker "True Yellow." This one did. [UPDATE: These yellow H.G.CO. signals are much harder to find than their Hemingray counterparts. To top it off, this one has stamped embossing rather than the typical prism embossing. Extremely rare! So, we have a trifecta here. Color=Yellow; Primary Embossing=H.G.CO.; Embossing style=Stamped] 1" chip in front removes 4 drip points and part of the "AY" in "MAY", 1/2" chip to its right removes 1 drip point, a number of the drip points are chipped. All of the damage is on the base, and the upper part is in very good condition. This elusive insulator will make a striking addition to your collection of H.G.CO. sign

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $297       Color: Electric Blue
The classic Electric Blue signal! Very distinctive, as well as distinct from the bright, eye-catching Peacock Blue H.G.CO. CD 162s that are often seen. The signal shown in lot 104 falls somewhere between Electric Blue and Peacock Blue, so check them both out! 8-drip-point-wide bruise in the front, 4-drip-point-wide bruise in the rear, a few chipped drip points. Add this beauty to your lineup of H.G. signals!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $286       Color: Whiskey Amber
Colorful H.G.CO. signals are much less common than their Hemingray counterparts, and their value reflects this. Here's an Amber one for your lineup! 8 slivered drip points, otherwise very near mint. Add this to your colorful H.G.CO. signal collection!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - BROOKFIELD       Sold For: $176       Color: Milky Green w/ Amber Swirls
This insulator has quite an unusual combination of thick milk ribbons intermixed with amber ribbons and patches. Although best seen with base lighting, the milk gives the insulator a translucent appearance, and the amber can also be seen when backlit. 1/4" inner skirt flake, several dings here and there. A desirable piece for the Brookfield or "junk-in-glass" collector!

Bill & Jill Insulators - Next Auction: Coming Soon

CD-162 - W.F.G.CO.       Sold For: $242       Color: Purple
This crude Purple signal was produced by the Western Flint Glass Company which operated in Valverde, Colorado, on the outskirts of Denver. A number of flakes on the base from 1/4" to 1/2" in size. 1/2" open wire bubble on the right side, 1/2" wire ridge flake on the left. There is a crude 1" diameter area where there were glass flakes pressed into the dome. A beautiful shade of Purple for a reasonable price!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - N.E.G.M.CO.       Sold For: $44       Color: Green Aqua w/ Seed Bubbles
Filled with lots of seed bubbles, which are much larger than your typical "fizz"! In addition, most of them have an opaque appearance, further enhancing their visibility. 1/4" base flake, 1/8" wire ridge flake, otherwise easily very near mint. See lot 135 for a contrasting N.E.G.M. signal. While you can see the seed bubbles everywhere, they are especially prominent in the thick dome glass, creating a very desirable addition for the "junk-in-glass" collector!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - N.E.G.M.CO.       Sold For: $688       Color: Olive Green w/ Underpour
A big underpour from the middle of the front skirt to the middle of the rear. In addition, the insulator is punctuated with some gray seed bubbles. 1/4" flake on the dome and 1/4" bruise at the left mold line, otherwise very near mint. See lot 134 for another N.E.G.M. signal! As an extra plus, the insulator displays best in a straight-on front view. The color alone makes this quite a desirable piece and the underpour adds to the eye-catching appeal!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - MCLAUGHLIN       Sold For: $253       Color: Bright Delft Blue
Delft Blue is one of the hardest colors to come by with this specific embossing. A nice saturated color, especially desirable in this very, very near mint condition!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $352       Color: Deep Inky Cobalt Blue
HEMINGRAY-19 {Round drip points}. This insulator has some inky hues, and it's a little darker than normally seen. Flaking on 3 drip points with open bubbles, 3/8" lower wire ridge chip, otherwise easily very near mint. This insulator will contrast well with your other Cobalt Blue signals!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $798       Color: Bright Orange Amber
HEMINGRAY-19 {Round drip points}. This insulator has a very nice glow to it! One can see a small internal impurity in the dome which is not a condition issue. Contrast this insulator with the Honey Amber example in lot 129. Always a popular color, especially in this excellent condition!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $418       Color: Honey Amber
HEMINGRAY-19 {Round drip points}. This insulator contrasts well with the Orange Amber signal in lot 128. Definitely a keeper, especially in this very, very near mint condition!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $462       Color: Clear/Blue Two Tone
HEMINGRAY-19 {Round drip points}. Sometimes factory annealing lines form along the boundary between the Blue and Clear glass. The extent of these can be seen in the photos. Aside from the factory annealing lines, the insulator is in wonderful condition! There are several Clear/Blue Two Tone Hemingray styles, and this can be a starting point for a set!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $99       Color: 7-up Green
HEMINGRAY-19 {Round drip points}. A rich, bright 7-up Green! 1/2" wire groove stress line, 1/4" skirt flake, otherwise very near mint. A factory impurity can be seen on the lower wire ridge in the rear. This is an interesting embossing variant where "HEMINGRAY" is blotted out under "MADE IN U.S.A." A nice contrasting color to the Rich Green example in lot 121.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $176       Color: Rich Green
HEMINGRAY-19 {Round drip points}. 1/2" stress line in the wire groove on the rear, a few little patches of roughness on the left front skirt. Drip points are perfect and the rest of the insulator looks really nice, too. A nice contrasting color to the 7-up Green example in lot 119.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $374       Color: Forest Green
HEMINGRAY // No 19 {Sharp drip points}. This is a nice, medium shade of green, and fits in well with your Olive Green and 7-up Green signals. Perfect drips, 1/4" wire ridge flake, otherwise very near mint. Add this beautiful insulator to your lineup!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $330       Color: Bright Peacock Cobalt Blue
HEMINGRAY // No 19 {Sharp drip points}. This is a beautifully rich and saturated color! It is mostly Cobalt Blue, but has some Peacock Blue hues, creating a very distinctive and attractive color. 2 slivered drip points, otherwise easily very near mint. This stunning color will stand out on your shelf!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $396       Color: Sapphire Cobalt Blue
HEMINGRAY // No 19 {Sharp drip points}. This is a "tweener" color! Half a dozen or so chipped drip points, 2 sheared-off drip points, 1/4" stress line up from the base at the left mold line. [UPDATE: as seen in view 3 Note the color of this view isn't 100% accurate as the other views.] This will fit in well with your other blue signals!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $132       Color: Cobalt Blue w/ Milk Swirls
HEMINGRAY // No 19 {Sharp drip points}. Areas of milk give this insulator some translucence. 1/2" skirt chip, 3/4" inner skirt chip, otherwise about very near mint. A different shade of Cobalt Blue than typically encountered!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $242       Color: Olive Green w/ Amber Blending
HEMINGRAY // No 19 {Sharp drip points}. Amber clouds are swirling around in the skirt. As you move up into the dome, the swirling is less pronounced and the color gets significantly darker. 3 slivered drip points, otherwise very, very near mint. Factory annealing lines can be seen around the threads. A nice two tone example!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $154       Color: Dark Red Amber
HEMINGRAY / PATENT MAY 2 1893 {Sharp drip points}. The drip points are perfect (one has an open bubble), a few little flakes on the base. Great overall condition and an attractive color!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $176       Color: Whiskey Amber/Aqua Two Tone
HEMINGRAY / PATENT MAY 2 1893 {Sharp drip points}. Significant areas of Aqua can be seen in the skirt, especially towards the right and the entire rear. About a half dozen chipped drip points, otherwise very, very near mint. An interesting blend of colors!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $198       Color: Honey Amber
HEMINGRAY / MADE IN U.S.A. {Sharp drip points}. A milky band flows over the pinhole! 3 chipped drip points and some dome scuffs, otherwise very near mint. Insulators from the "land of milk and honey" are always striking!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $396       Color: Deep Gingerale
This is certainly a desirable insulator! 3/4" bruise on the rear, moderate drip point chipping, mostly in the rear. Colored signals have always been quite collectible and this color, being difficult to obtain, should fill a hole in your collection!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $715       Color: Bright Electric Peacock Blue
This insulator is leaning towards Peacock Blue, but it does have some Electric Blue tones. The well-saturated color can especially be seen in the dome and upper skirt area. 1/8" flake/ding to the right of center on the front, 3 sheared off drip points in the rear, otherwise about very near mint. Quite a stunning color that will stand out in your lineup of Cobalt Blue and Peacock Blue insulators!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $253       Color: Red Orange Amber
This insulator has quite an attractive Red Orange Amber coloration! A couple of 1/8" dings, about a half dozen chipped drip points. This shade will contrast well with the other colorful H.G.CO. signals in this auction!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $440       Color: Rich Purple
These Rich Purple insulators are always desirable and stand out in your lineup among the other colors of H.G.CO. signals! 1" bruise in front and about 6 chipped drip points, otherwise easily very near mint. If you happen to have a Royal Purple example, this medium shade of Purple will contrast well with it!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $110       Color: Snowy Light Aqua
There's a nice "blizzard" in this piece! Although collectors refer to this characteristic as "snow", it is actually small pieces of firebrick that have fallen off the furnace ceiling. 3/4" chip on the inside of the skirt affects 3 drip points, 1/4" base flake affects 2 drip points, 1/2" base bruise. The condition issues are hard to see, especially with all the "snow" in the piece. This distinctive insulator will stand out in your signal lineup!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $319       Color: Gingerale/Amber Two Tone
There is a nice section of Amber in the wire groove area and more of a Gingerale color in the dome and skirt. 1/2" open bubble on the skirt affects 4 drip points, 1/4" flake on the inner skirt, otherwise about very near mint. An unusual coloration, not typically seen!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - GOOD       Sold For: $1,485       Color: Light Purple
The fizz in this piece adds some interesting character! Robert Good produced insulators in the Valverde area of Colorado, near Denver, and operated a company under his own name from 1895 until 1899. 3/8" inner skirt chip, 3/4" "Y"-shaped skirt fracture, 1" wire ridge flake, 3/8" wire ridge flake, all towards the right mold line, otherwise about very near mint. An attractive coloration for this "GOOD" insulator!

CD-162 - W.G.M.CO.       Sold For: $209       Color: Peachy Straw EIN: [010]
Purple is a very desirable color when it comes to many insulators. When it comes to W.G.M. examples, Purple is more common and Straw is much more difficult to acquire. Produced in the Denver, Colorado area by the Western Glass Manufacturing Company, which began operating in 1900 when the Western Flint Glass Company was reorganized, and was active through 1909. 1" base bruise on the left rear, otherwise very near mint. 1" band of weathering on the left front of the insulator, perhaps from some wind-blown sand. A number of larger bubbles float around in the skirt and dome. A nice tweener color!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - STAR       Sold For: $352       Color: Midnight Teal Blue EIN: [030]
There is a teeny star on the rear of this insulator that is barely 1/8" wide. This hybrid color has a Teal Blue base but is darker and more blue. Some chatter around the base of the skirt, otherwise very near mint. The dome glass helps show off the color!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $154       Color: Bright 7-up Green EIN: [090]
Your quintessential 7-up Green signal! Hemingray produced a number of 7-up Green pieces: CD 106, CD 122, CD 162, CD 214 and the ultra-rare CD 137 and CD 160. This is an excellent example of 7-up Green, especially in this very, very near mint condition!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $688       Color: Carnival EIN: [160]
Your classic Hemingray carnival! 2 pinhead flakes on the base of the skirt and a small factory area of roughness are not coated with carnival; this is consistent with factory-applied carnival coating and helps to authenticate the piece. The insulator is otherwise very, very near mint. The date code of 1934 is also consistent with the production of Carnival insulators. This insulator was carnival-coated at the factory by spraying a liquid coating onto the hot glass, most likely to identify a particular line. A nice shiny piece to go with your other colored signals!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $198       Color: Dark Olive Green EIN: [070]
What a beautiful color! This darker shade still passes light easily. 1/2" wire ridge chip in the rear, otherwise very near mint. This insulator will fit in well with your blues and ambers!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $550       Color: Bright Orange Amber EIN: [090]
This signal has a nice glow! Compare it with the Red Orange example in lot 90. Easily very near mint. A classic Hemingray amber!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $352       Color: Bright Cobalt Blue EIN: [230]
This less common variant does not have the word "PATENT" in the embossing. 3/8" skirt chip at the mold line, 3/8" flake on the rear wire ridge, otherwise about very near mint. Get a nice color and an embossing variant all in one shot!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $743       Color: Sapphire Cobalt Blue EIN: [070]
This distinctive shade is very different from the more common Cobalt Blue and Peacock Blue examples! 1/4" skirt flake, otherwise very near mint. A must for the signal collector!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $550       Color: Electric Blue w/ Milk Swirls EIN: [260]
The uncommon coloration of this insulator is similar to that seen more often in the CD 257 Electric Blue "Mickey." There is an abundance of snowflakes and some milk which is not usually seen in signals. This can best be seen when front lit. A few chipped drip points, otherwise very, very near mint. This well-saturated example is a great color reference for "Electric Blue"!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $275       Color: Rich Cobalt Blue EIN: [090]
The round drip point units are a different shade of Cobalt compared to the sharp drip point examples. 1" base bruise, otherwise very, very near mint. This rich color will contrast well with your other Cobalt Blue signals. Ready for display!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $396       Color: Light Cobalt Blue w/ Milk Swirls EIN: [070]
Milk swirls are present, especially in the middle of the front and rear. These units are less common than their darker Cobalt Blue counterparts, but the price doesn't reflect this relative rarity. This nice example is easily in very near mint condition and will fit in well with your other blue signals!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $396       Color: Honey Mustard Amber EIN: [110]
Honey + Mustard + a hint of Green? That's the best we could come up with to describe this "impossible to name" color! 1/4" x 1/2" flake on the inner skirt, 4 chipped drip points, otherwise easily very near mint. Surely an insulator this unique will fit into your signal collection!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $132       Color: Dark Brown Amber EIN: [070]
Here's a variant to add to your lineup of amber signals! 1/2" skirt chip/flake in the rear, otherwise very near mint. A bit of a two tone where one can see areas of amber swirling in the skirt. A different shade than is normally seen!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $462       Color: Rich Teal Blue EIN: [070]
An uncommon rich color; which can be compared with the wing patch on the teal duck! Nice meandering creases, especially in the dome. 1/4" flake/ding on the lower wire ridge, factory imperfection on the inner skirt, otherwise easily very near mint. This hard-to-find colorful addition to your signal collection contrasts well with the other examples we are offering!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $275       Color: Red Orange Amber EIN: [090]
A shade or two redder than Orange Amber (see lot 91), but not red enough to be Red Amber. Stress fracture all around the dome, but it does not reach the surface of the glass. 1" rear wire ridge flake, otherwise about very near mint. A good tweener color!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $715       Color: Light Purple EIN: [070]
What a striking color, especially when contrasted with the darker purple signals. 1/2" skirt chip in the rear, otherwise about very near mint. Add this beautiful insulator to your H.G.CO. lineup!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $286       Color: Electric Sky Blue EIN: [010]
This is an odd color, kind of a Sky Blue but with that Electric Blue pop! There is also a bit of an odd profile, perhaps due to a little slumping in the mold. 1 1/2" feather bruise, 1/2" wire ridge flake, 1/2" skirt flake, all at the left mold line, 1/2" open bubble on the base, otherwise about very near mint. The "smooth base" signals are uncommon and worth a premium over their drip-pointed counterparts. This is a great color for your lineup!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $88       Color: Icy Aqua EIN: [070]
Some might call this Ice Aqua, but it's probably a tint darker than Ice Aqua and a tint lighter than Light Aqua. Two 1/2" skirt chips, 1/4" inner skirt chip, otherwise about very near mint. A nicely contrasting addition to your H.G.CO. signal lineup!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $506       Color: Bright Peacock Blue EIN: [070]
Peacock Blue signals are always eye-catching! 1/2" skirt flake and a small skirt bruise on the front, 1/2" inner skirt flake on the rear, otherwise about very near mint. Some interesting creases in the glass meander up from the front skirt, over the dome, and down the back. A colorful addition to your signal collection!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $44       Color: Aqua w/ Milk Swirls EIN: [070]
Nice milk swirls dance around the insulator, especially in the front crown. Looks best base lit. Two 1/2" chips at the right mold line, 1" bruise on the left mold line. A nice variant for your signal collection!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $198       Color: Honey Amber EIN: [070]
Honey Amber is quite a desirable color! 1 1/2" base bruise on the rear, a few chipped drip points, several dings here and there. 3 of the drip points together on the front skirt have open bubbles and are incompletely formed. A colorful and welcome addition to any signal collection!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $2,970       Color: Rich Green w/ Amber Blending EIN: [040]
A stunning color variation where amber swirls and amber tones can be seen throughout! If this insulator was just plain Green, it would be rare, but the addition of the amber puts it over the top. Amber "smooth base" signals are uncommon and the Green examples are even harder to find, especially in this very, very near mint condition!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $308       Color: Red Orange Amber EIN: [070]
A great color to contrast with the other amber shades in which this insulator is found! 1/2" bruise affects 4 drip points, a few others are chipped, otherwise very near mint. A medium amber shade that should fit into your lineup of H.G.CO. signals!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - GOOD       Sold For: $506       Color: Light Purple EIN: [020]
One can really see the depth of the purple color in the dome. Robert Good produced insulators in the Valverde area of Colorado, near Denver, and operated a company under his own name from 1895 until 1899. Some flaking on the inner skirt and some abrasion on a few of the threads. An attractive color that is far better than the typical Aqua examples you may encounter!

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $132       Color: 7-up Green EIN: [090]
We called this insulator "medium 7-up Green". Very, very near mint. View 3 contrasts this insulator (shown on the left) with the more subdued 3-up Green of lot 113. A nice color variant for your collection!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $264       Color: Light Carnival EIN: [160]
Typical Hemingray carnival, which is a little lighter on the top and less orange than the marigold carnival coloring of many of the Pyrex insulators. Very near mint. The date code indicates this example was produced in 1934. A shiner for your collection!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $605       Color: 3-up Green EIN: [090]
This insulator is in the 7-up family, and is very close to Green in the spectrum of Green to 7-up Green. View 3 contrasts this insulator (shown on the left) with the 7-up Green example in lot 114. Wonderful condition!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $132       Color: Honey Amber EIN: [220]
This insulator displays the less common embossing variant where "MADE IN U.S.A." was added in 1919 to satisfy export requirements. 3/4" wire ridge bruise left of center, about a dozen chipped drip points, otherwise about very near mint. A honey of a piece to take home!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $209       Color: Electric Cobalt Blue EIN: [240]
The ever-popular Cobalt Blue signal! This color leans towards Electric Blue, making a nice contrast. Two 1/4" flakes and about a half dozen chipped drip points, otherwise very near mint. Add this to your lineup!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $132       Color: Cobalt Blue EIN: [220]
An attractive and eye-catching color! 1" base bruise, 1/4" skirt chip, moderate drip point chipping. No collection is complete without a cobalt signal or two or three, and this shade will fit in with your others!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $286       Color: Flashed Amber EIN: [150]
A rare coloration and one of the few Flashed Amber pieces that Hemingray produced! Nice striations can be seen on the front and the rear. Produced in very small quantities, some units were found in the Hemingray dump and were often damaged. This example has a couple of small blotchy patches in the front and a 2" skirt chip repair on the left rear. From the mold and date codes, they appear to have been produced in 1941 in a few different molds. Quite an elusive and desirable insulator for the signal collector!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY-19       Sold For: $688       Color: Orange Amber EIN: [090]
The classic rich Orange Amber color matches its CD 164 counterpart, as can be seen in lot 122. Perfect drip points! For completeness, we'll mention some scuffing in the wire groove. A colorful addition to your collection, especially in this fine condition!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY-19       Sold For: $352       Color: Rich Cobalt Blue
Some consider the "round drip point" variants the reference color for Cobalt Blue, and this insulator doesn't disappoint! Wonderful condition with just a little roughness on a couple of open bubbles on the rear. A standout addition to your collection!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY-19       Sold For: $132       Color: Hemingray Blue/Green Two Tone EIN: [090]
An attractive two-tone coloration, with the Green taking up about 1/3 of the diameter and 2/3 of the height! 2 chipped drip points and a 1/2" area of roughness on the inner skirt, otherwise very near mint. The darker rich Hemingray Blue contrasts well with the Green, giving a nice presentation when viewed from the front!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY // No 19       Sold For: $176       Color: Green/Aqua Two Tone EIN: [070]
This insulator displays an interesting color split with more of the Green in the front skirt and dome and more of the Aqua in the rear skirt. Several chipped drip points, otherwise very near mint. A great companion to the other two-tone in lot 118; take them both home!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY // No 19       Sold For: $853       Color: Yellowy Olive Green EIN: [070]
More yellow coloration sets this apart from your basic Olive Green. Crude with some interesting folds throughout the glass, especially in the front. 1/4" feather bruise and a small area of crazing on the dome, otherwise very near mint. As with the blues and the ambers, there is a whole range of greens in the signal lineup. This is one of the more desirable shades, and a very nice example!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY // No 19       Sold For: $297       Color: Celery Sage Green EIN: [070]
Apologies for the odd color name! As you know there is a continuous spectrum of colors and we felt this was neither Celery Green nor Sage Green. 1 1/2" fracture at the top of the threads, otherwise easily very near mint. A nice tweener color for your lineup!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY // No 19       Sold For: $198       Color: Bright Cobalt Blue EIN: [090]
A glower! Some of these Cobalt Blue signals have that little extra that makes them "pop" on your shelf; this is one of them! 1/4" skirt chip, otherwise about very near mint. Get your sunglasses out!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $187       Color: Dark Ginger Ale EIN: [070]
Would you like a cold beverage? 1/2" skirt chip, 1/4" wire ridge flake, several chipped drip points, a few other blemishes here and there. This Ginger ale colored insulator will quench your desire for an unusual addition to your collection.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $550       Color: Whiskey Amber EIN: [070]

It is interesting to note that the "H", "G" and "CO" are spaced widely apart and there are no periods. A beautiful color!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $462       Color: Bright Peacock Blue EIN: [070]
A signature Hemingray color that is becoming more desirable over the years! 6 chipped drip points, 1/4" inner skirt flake. This insulator will contrast well with your Cobalt Blue signals!

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $77       Color: Electric Blue EIN: [070]
1" skirt chip in the rear, 3/4" bruise in the front, about 2/3 of the drip points are chipped. Some haze on the front as can be seen in the photo. Yes, it's seen better days, but it's still a desirable and classic color!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - 1678       Sold For: $165       Color: Dark Purple EIN: [020]
Rich purple, especially pronounced in the dome! A few chipped drip points and 1/4" flake on the wire ridge, otherwise very near mint. A similar unit in our last auction soared to over $400, but we'll put a more conservative estimate on this piece and you can decide. The rich shade of purple is well-saturated and passes light well!

CD-162 - STAR       Sold For: $231       Color: Aqua w/ 1" Nail
There's a 1" nail in the wire groove that looks like a flying comet! Very near mint. Nails are always a desirable junk-in-glass feature, so add this example to your collection!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Aside from one chipped drip point, it's in excellent condition. Ready to display!

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $743       Color: Orange Amber
{Smooth base} A classic Hemingray color! 1/2" wire ridge flake on the right mold line, about four dings on the dome. Smooth base signals are much scarcer than their dripped counterparts. UPDATE: 9/8 there is a 1/4" thin flake (not 1/2") on the bottom of the upper wire ridge and a 1/8" thin flake in line with that and on the top of the upper wire ridge as can be seen in view 3. Pretty hard to see and it had to be turned until there was a reflection on that area to be able to photograph it.

CD-162 - PAT'D NOV 13TH 1883       Sold For: $154       Color: Light Aqua w/ Wires
Not one, but two 1 1/2" long wires are embedded in the skirt and the dome. The presence of the rusted steel creates some heavy amber around the wire. Amber threads can be seen throughout the rest of the insulator. Two small inner skirt flakes, otherwise very near mint. Double wires for double the interest!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - N.E.G.M.CO.       Sold For: $77       Color: Rich Green
A nice example produced by the New England Glass Manufacturing Company, which operated in the Boston area for a short period of time. Very good condition and a rich, well-saturated color.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - McLAUGHLIN // No 19       Sold For: $105       Color: Rich Emerald Green
Easily very near mint. McLaughlin produced their signal style in a wide variety of colors. This bright and bold color is sure to fit right in and "pop" on your display shelf!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY-19       Sold For: $550       Color: Rich Bright Cobalt Blue
This color really catches your eye as soon as you see it! One can even see some yellow streaks, especially in the front skirt. Once you see the wonderful condition (virtually mint?), it's a no-brainer "must-have" gem for the signal collector.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY-19       Sold For: $7,150       Color: True Yellow
The elusive "True Yellow" Hemingray signal! It can be hard to tell a True Yellow signal just from looking at it. We do not guess. We compare it to our reference True Yellow signal in our personal collection to see if it should get the moniker "True Yellow." This one did. A key piece in a signal collection that contrasts well with the blues and greens. Several examples with some damage have recently sold for nearly $4,000. A real beauty and in astounding virtually mint condition!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY-19       Sold For: $198       Color: 7-up Green w/ Black Glob
A rare double-tailed black pollywog can be seen in the skirt! Normally the 7-up Green signals are a homogenous color, but this insulator has lighter and darker areas in the skirt and dome. Very near mint. Classier than your typical example!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY // No 19       Sold For: $72       Color: Aqua w/ Milk Swirls
{Smooth base} Crudely made with an abundance of milk swirls, bubble trails and elongated twisted bubbles! Nice creases in the crown give it some extra texture. 3/8" inner skirt chip, otherwise very near mint. A cool "junk in glass" insulator which is already a less common smooth base variation!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY // No 19       Sold For: $143       Color: Milky Sooty Aqua
Wow, there's a lot going on in this insulator! Crudely made with folds in the glass and some orange peel texture. Add in milky swirls throughout the glass. Top it off with some heavy soot swirls that are especially visible in the front. A three-legged factory annealing stress line, likely caused by the impurities and the crude manufacturing. A fun piece filled with character that you can look at for hours!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY // No 19       Sold For: $286       Color: Rich Olive Green
Easily very near mint. This rich, saturated color passes light well and is an eye-catching contrasting color to the blues and ambers that are often seen. Add this to your signal lineup!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY / MAY 2 1893 // PETTICOAT       Sold For: $506       Color: Bright Peacock Cobalt Blue
We call this gem "Peacock Cobalt Blue" to distinguish it from other shades of Cobalt Blue. The well-saturated color truly glows! Just a flake on an open bubble and a chipped drip away from mint. Absolutely stunning!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY / MADE IN USA // No 19       Sold For: $297       Color: Bright Cobalt Blue
A strong, rich color. The sharp drip point styles were produced before the round drip point variants. A few chipped drip points, otherwise easily very near mint. A nice embossing/base variant for the signal collector!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $462       Color: Royal Purple
What a stunning color! 1/2" wire ridge chip/bruise on the left front, 1/2" wire ridge flake on the left rear. Royal Purple is one of the most desirable signal colors. Perfect drip points!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $396       Color: Orange Amber
This is an early Smooth Base version of the standard "Double Petticoat" signal style, predating the 1893 patented drip points. Orange Amber is another classic Hemingray color, in addition to Peacock Blue. About 2/3 of the inner skirt is broken off, but the outside remains in very good condition. One can build a great collection of Smooth Base signals, and this would be a key color for that collection. Buy it now!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $198       Color: Orange Amber
Some drip chipping and several dings. The H.G.CO. signals were produced in a dazzling array of colors. This piece is one of Hemingray's signature colors, and would be a welcome addition to your collection of signals!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $440       Color: Light Electric Blue
Milky streamers run up and over the dome and around the rear skirt. A popular and attractive color, and this example is in very near mint condition.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $121       Color: Whiskey Ginger Ale
Kind of an odd color and hard to describe. 1" bruise in the front and several chipped drip points, otherwise very near mint. Will you be able to find another color like this?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $286       Color: Bright Electric Blue
A vivid, well-saturated color, similar to the coloration seen in the CD 257 Electric Blue Mickeys. 1 1/2" base bruise in the rear with some drip point chipping and a dome fisheye, otherwise about very near mint. A beautiful example of Electric Blue!

CD-162 - BROOKFIELD       Sold For: $143       Color: Olive Green w/ Amber
Neat dome quirk! Not only is the insulator slumped to the left, but the dome portion of the mold is misaligned, causing the dome to be offset to the left of the skirt by nearly an eighth of an inch! Some minor dings and flakes here and there. In addition, the insulator has some nice amber swirls in the skirt and some tiger striping over the dome. A colorful oddity!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - BROOKFIELD       Sold For: $50       Color: Olive Green w/ "Tooth"
"Call the dentist, I lost my tooth!" "Sir, I see it embedded in the dome of this insulator!" "Thank you for finding it, can we extract it?" "No, it would damage the valuable insulator!" An 1/8" open bubble on the skirt, otherwise about very, very near mint. Please save Johnny's tooth!

Bill & Jill Insulators - Next Auction: Coming Soon

SI-162 - McLAUGHLIN No 19 Commemorative       Sold For: $308       Color: White w/ Red, Orange and Yellow Swirls
Mint! Colorful swirls of red, orange and yellow can be seen around the insulator, especially in the rear. These were made in less than ideal conditions and this one has a moderate amount of small bubbles that are near the surface of the glass. The inner skirt is nearly non-existent, and the threads are not well formed. An oddity!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - No 19       Sold For: $275       Color: Bright Cobalt Blue
Just a 1/2" open bubble on the skirt and one chipped drip point. This is the unusual variant that is only embossed "No 19", without the "HEMINGRAY". One can speculate that two halves of the mold were assembled without regard for the embossing. Worth a premium because of the odd embossing and the great condition!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $297       Color: Inky Cobalt Blue w/ "Yellow" Streaks
Several drip points with open bubbles, one drip point did not form. Two 1/8" flakes on the wire ridge and on the dome. The coloration is very unusual in that it has a yellow band running all the way around the skirt, continuing around the pinhole and up over the dome. Cobalt Blue with character; have you seen another?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $110       Color: Electric Blue
1/2" base chip, 1/2" base bruise, many chipped drip points. Most Electric Blue signals are marked "H.G.CO." This is the only embossing index for "HEMINGRAY" embossed Electric Blue signals. Get yours now!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY-19       Sold For: $187       Color: 7-up Green
{Round drip points} Fantastic condition with perfect drip points. The "7-up Green" CD 106, CD 122, CD 160, CD 162 and CD 214 were all made in the same time frame, and they were believed to have been produced from a large batch of 7-up Green bottle cullet. The stunning color of this piece is always popular, so add it to your lineup!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY-19       Sold For: $3,960       Color: True Yellow
UPDATE: It can be hard to tell a True Yellow signal just from looking at it. We do not guess. We compare it to our reference True Yellow signal in our personal collection to see if it should get the moniker "True Yellow." This one did. These True Yellow signals are hard to find and are in high demand by collectors. They contrast well with the other colors in the Hemingray lineup and this will be a standout piece in your collection. About a 1/4" chip and a few little nibbles on the inner skirt. A "near true yellow" one in similar condition recently sold for nearly $3,000! Over the years the price of these has been rising as collectors realize the difficulty in obtaining one. You're not going to find a Hemingray signal that's more yellow!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY-19       Sold For: $121       Color: Hemingray Blue/Green Two-Tone
Two chipped drips and a 1" scallop bruise on the front skirt. Good color separation with about 1/3 green and 2/3 blue. This color variant is typically found in CD 106, 154, 162 and 164. Most importantly, the color separation can be seen left of center when displayed from the front rather than on the sides. A great two-tone signal!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY-19       Sold For: $143       Color: Deep Honey Amber
About a half dozen chipped drips, otherwise very near mint. A beautiful deep shade of amber for your line-up of Hemingray signals!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY-19       Sold For: $242       Color: Sage Aqua
A few 1/8" little dings and flakes here and there and a few other very minor imperfections. An odd color that doesn't seem close to listings in the Price Guide. "Sage Aqua" was the best we could come up with! This should fit in with your spread of colors for CD 162 Signals!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY-19       Sold For: $578       Color: Carnival
1/8" wire ridge flake in the rear, otherwise about very near mint. Perfect drips! One can see that the minor flakes and abrasions do not have carnival on them, which helps authenticate the piece. In addition, the date code of 1934 is consistent with the production of Carnival insulators. This insulator was carnival-coated at the factory by spraying a liquid coating onto the hot glass, most likely to identify a particular line. A nice shiny piece to go with your other colored signals!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY-19 // MADE IN U.S.A.       Sold For: $319       Color: Dark Cobalt Blue
1" clean bruise on the rear wire ridge, otherwise in great condition! This is the quintessential Cobalt Blue color! Simply stunning!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY // No 19       Sold For: $352       Color: Light Milky Cobalt Blue
Very, very near mint with three factory open bubbles next to each other on the rear. A few Cobalt Blue examples contain milky impurities such as this one, which add an interesting translucent effect, most noticeable in the upper skirt and around the pinhole. Another wonderful piece in fantastic condition!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY // No 19       Sold For: $253       Color: Electric Cobalt Blue
Four chipped drips, otherwise easily very near mint. Kind of a "tweener" color which is "tween" Electric Blue and Cobalt Blue. An attractive color variant, for sure!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY // No 19       Sold For: $176       Color: Dark Red Amber
Five chipped drips, otherwise about very, very near mint. This darker shade will contrast well with your other amber signals!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY // No 19       Sold For: $308       Color: Bright Cobalt Blue
1/4" thin dome flake, 1/4" ridge flake, otherwise easily very near mint. A little lighter than lot 111, more of a "medium" cobalt. A few little "chunks" of snowy impurities in the glass add some extra interest.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $264       Color: Whiskey Ginger Ale
Two chipped drips, two with stress lines, 1/2" bruise in front, 3/4" of flaking on the inside of the outer skirt. Other colors that came to mind when describing this unusual coloration were Dark Ginger Ale and Mustard Amber. You won't be disappointed with this one!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $132       Color: Dark Orange Amber
Two chipped drips, otherwise about very near mint. Note that the area under "MAY" is a closed bubble and not damage. This is one of the darker shades of Orange Amber signals. It passes light well, and it will contrast well with the lighter shades that you may have.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $578       Color: Rich Peacock Blue
Perfect drips and very, very near mint! This is the rich, stunning Peacock Blue that Hemingray collectors cherish. Well, of course, every collector loves Peacock Blue! The great color and condition rank this as one of the best you will find!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $143       Color: Electric Blue
Base bruise at the left mold line that affects six drip points, 1/2" stress bruise on the wire ridge, 3/8" inner skirt flake, and a couple of chipped drips. It really isn't as bad as it sounds. It displays great and has a nice rich color!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $110       Color: Light Jade Green Milk
1/2" skirt chip near the left mold line, six drip point scallop bruise, otherwise easily very near mint. A solid jade color, but a lighter and more translucent shade that passes light well. A more unique signal than you typically encounter!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $242       Color: Rich Electric Blue w/ Blue Swirls
1/2" chip on the rear removes a few letters from the embossing, two 1/4" wire ridge flakes and bruise, otherwise about very near mint. One can see pronounced light and dark blue swirls in the dome, especially above the pinhole. Note that view 1 is taken underwater to highlight the swirls. A terrific, bright saturated color that displays very well. Plus, the swirls in the dome add a lot of pizzazz!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G.CO.       Sold For: $352       Color: Royal Purple
1" bruise under "MAY" affects three drips, two chipped drips, four dings. H.G.CO. signals are found in various shades of purple. This is a beautiful deep shade which still allows some light to pass through in the skirt and the wire groove, and around the threads. Stunning!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - CALIFORNIA       Sold For: $352       Color: Purple/Sage Two-Tone
Factory 1/4" open bubble on the base, otherwise very, very near mint. A very attractive two-tone, with a mostly sage skirt, some mix of colors in the wire groove area, and stronger purple tones in the dome. There are streaks in the dome of different intensities of purple. See lot 99 for a very similar CD 161 two-tone. California collectors, take note of these distinctive insulators!

Open Wire - Visit

CD-162 - W Brookfield 1884       Sold For: $303       Color: Green with olive amber.
A relatively common item in aqua and scarce in green, but a real prize when found in green with an infusion of amber. Some of the amber is in the form of swirling, while the remainder is somewhat blended, providing a two-tone appearance. Lots of bold embossing on both the dome and skirt, making this an exceptional example overall. A tremendous opportunity for the crown embossed Brookfield specialist.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - STAR       Sold For: $105       Color: Hemingray Blue w/ Black Stringers
1/4" fish eye on the dome, otherwise easily very near mint. The color can only be described as "Hemingray Blue" with some teal overtones; quite the unusual color! Black stringers wind up and down and around the insulator as if a little kid was drawing squiggly lines on it with a felt pen. Great character!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - PAT'D NOV 13TH 1883       Sold For: $61       Color: Light Aqua
3/8" base flake and a 1/4" wire ridge flake, otherwise very near mint. The insulator has that "out of round" base you see with many CD 145 Americans as well as Samuel Oakman's patent date of Nov 13, 1883. A tough embossing not often offered for sale.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - McLaughlin 1972       Sold For: $1,045       Color: Swirled red slag.
These highly cherished red swirled commemorative insulators were produced in very limited quantities by William McLaughlin himself during the early 1970's. William pressed several hundred commemoratives just prior to his passing, most were anything from solid white milkglass to multi-colored milkglass in varying swirl intensities. In addition, McLaughlin also produced a limited number of red commemoratives, and many were given as gifts to his family members and closer friends. This example is mostly red milkglass, but does contain some swirls of clear red glass. Unlike most other modern insulator commemoratives and reproductions, these prized examples were personally made by the actual hands of a true insulator manufacturing pioneer! Three photos providing varying lighting conditions.

CD-162 - McLaughlin 1972       Sold For: $1,100       Color: Swirled red, white and blue.
Produced by William McLaughlin in his garage during the early 1970's. The swirling in these can range in intensity from faint wisps, to wild multi-colored swirls. This example suggests that Mr. McLaughlin may have had a stanch patriotic side to him, since it exhibits a powerful red, white & blue theme. The swirls are quite profuse throughout the entire insulator. One of the nicer multi-colored examples we have had the pleasure to offer.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - McLaughlin 1972       Sold For: $209       Color: Pastel multi-color swirls.
A similar color mix to the other multi-color McLaughlin we are offering in this auction, however the colors are found to be in much softer, pastel tones. They actually make a great, contrasting pair when displayed side-by-side.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - Hemingray-19       Sold For: $743       Color: Golden yellow.
The next step up from the yellow shades found in the Hemingray signal color lineup. This color is similar to the gorgeous tangerine shades found in the earlier H.G. Co signals. Absolute eye candy for your signal or general collection. View 1 & View 2 are indoor back lighting; View 3 is direct outdoor lighting.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HG Co smooth base       Sold For: $3,630       Color: Rich glowing peacock blue.
A gorgeous smooth base signal in an unusually brilliant, yet deep shade of peacock blue. A good number of the known peacock blue smooth base signals contain notable damage, especially to the upper wire ridge and skirt. Finding a vnm or better example can be a real challenge. Again, the color appears richer, yet brighter than some of the darker smooth base peacock blue signals we've handled and this one really glows under any form of lighting. Capturing and reproducing true peacock blue shades digitally is impossible. You are guaranteed to be delighted and amazed at the actual color when you receive this beauty!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HG Co 1893       Sold For: $1,018       Color: Glowing orange amber.
A standout color, possibly a little lighter and brighter than the typical orange amber. The condition is truly amazing, with only a thin slice to the inner side of one drip! Enough said here, this one speaks for itself in the photos. View 1 & View 2 are indoor back lighting; View 3 is direct outdoor lighting.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HG Co 1893       Sold For: $440       Color: Bright golden whiskey amber.
A highly sought after color, somewhere between golden ginger ale and whiskey amber. Lighter and brighter than the typical whiskey amber shades. Overall good condition for a sdp signal. The arc bruise is essentially unperceptive with a direct frontal view, hiding inconspicuously behind the lower front embossing, so it should be of little concern. An unusual color shade for your colorful signal lineup. View 1 & View 2 are indoor back lighting; View 3 is direct outdoor lighting.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY       Sold For: $286       Color: Bright Cobalt Blue
1 chipped drip, 3 with open bubbles, shallow 3/8" inner skirt flake. This is the less common embossing variant with "PATENT MAY 2 1893" on the front skirt and without the No 19 style designation. Always a popular and attractive color and sure to please!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY-19       Sold For: $187       Color: 7-up Green
Excellent condition. A recent find in Massachusetts! The "7-up Green" CD 106, CD 122, CD 160, CD 162 and CD 214 were all made in the same time frame, and were believed to have been produced from a large batch of 7-up Green bottle cullet. The stunning color of this piece is always popular, so add it to your lineup!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY // No 19       Sold For: $165       Color: Sage Green
Wonderful condition with just a 1/4" flake on the inner skirt near the right mold line. Hemingray signals come in a large array of colors, but these Sage Green examples are harder to obtain than most people realize. Be sure you have one in your collection, otherwise this is the one for you!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY // No 19       Sold For: $352       Color: Whiskey Amber Two Tone
Very near mint. One can see different colored swirls, especially in the skirt. This attractive signal is a bit different than your typical piece and will round out your amber signal collection well!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY // No 19       Sold For: $121       Color: Olivey Green
A 3 drip point wide bruise to the left of center, otherwise very near mint. The coloration of this insulator is similar to lot 107 but with a bit more of the olive tones. Colored CD 162's have always been popular, and this will stand out and contrast with your amber, blue and purple signals.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY // No 19       Sold For: $209       Color: Honey Amber
6 chipped drip points, otherwise about very, very near mint. Hemingray signals are found in a variety of amber tones ranging from yellow to dark red amber. This one is right about in the middle of that color spectrum and would be a welcome addition to your collection.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY // No 19       Sold For: $176       Color: Rich Cobalt Blue
1/4" skirt chip affects 2 drip points, 3 chipped drip points in the rear. Also see lot 101. This older example with sharp drip points has brighter, richer tones than are seen in the newer cobalt signals.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY // No 19       Sold For: $275       Color: Rich Cobalt Blue
1 chipped drip, 3/4" rear wire ridge bruise. Also see lot 100. This example has deep, rich tones, and is often a "brighter" cobalt color than what you see in the later round drip pointed signals.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G. CO.       Sold For: $578       Color: Rich Orange Amber
{Smooth base} 1" inner skirt chip at the right mold line, otherwise about very near mint. The "dripped signal" styles come in a variety of colors, but their "smooth base" counterparts are quite uncommon in classic "Hemingray Amber". Great color, tough piece!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G. CO.       Sold For: $143       Color: Fizzy Aqua
Three chipped drip points, otherwise very, very near mint. This insulator is filled with microbubbles, creating an effervescent appearance which is quite uncommon in signals. The great character and great condition make this an outstanding addition to most any collection!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G. CO.       Sold For: $286       Color: Milky Translucent Aqua
Some drip chipping and a base area with four drips missing as can be seen in the photographs. A heavy presence of opaque milky impurities gives this a translucent appearance. Some areas of milky streaks can be seen, so the purist might call this "Milky Aqua". In any case, a very desirable signal that has seen increasing demand!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G. CO.       Sold For: $352       Color: Peacock Blue
Hard to see 1" scallop bruise towards the right mold line, 4 chipped drips. Brighter and more glowing than your Electric Blues. A pleasing coloration that fits right in with the "family" of Peacock Blue styles that Hemingray produced.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G. CO.       Sold For: $165       Color: Electric Blue

CD-162 - H.G. CO.       Sold For: $253       Color: Bright Peacock Blue
3/4" rear wire ridge chip, significant drip chipping. A little concrete is left in the threads from use. One of the all time classic Hemingray signal colors, this one doesn't disappoint you in that department. If you are looking for a great color, here's your chance to get one for a price that's lower than a very near mint example. Displays quite well, especially from the front.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - BROOKFIELD       Sold For: $231       Color: Icy Gray Purple
Three small areas of inner skirt flaking, otherwise easily very near mint. Although classified as a CD 162, it is significantly different in shape than the more "standard" CD 162 styles like the Hemingray signals. There is a nice two-tone effect with the upper half showing the purple tone. The thick dome glass makes this difference more pronounced.

Bill & Jill Insulators - Next Auction: Coming Soon

SI-162 - McLAUGHLIN No 19       Sold For: $286       Color: Blue Milk w/ Multi-colored Swirls
Mint! In 1972 William McLaughlin built a small glass factory in his garage, where he made commemorative insulators to celebrate the 75th anniversary of his start in the glass business. All of them are unique, and were made in a variety of swirled and slag glass colors. Nearly all the swirled McLaughlin commemoratives have a white base color. This one is highly unusual because the base color is pale blue. This gives a completely different overall look to the insulator and makes it stand out in the crowd!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - N.E.G.M. CO.       Sold For: $72       Color: Various Aquas
These three signals manufactured by the New England Glass Manufacturing Company are offered as one lot. (Top) Very, very near mint. This stretched unit looks like it should be assigned a new CD! (Left) Very near mint. Tilted with an underpour on the left side. Base is oval. (Right) 2" area of flaking/chipping under upper wire ridge. Leans to the left and is slightly out-of-round. N.E.G.M.'s quality control was poor and resulted in oddities like this. A neat grouping!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY-19       Sold For: $121       Color: Hemingray Blue/Green Two Tone
Front 1" wire ridge flake, otherwise very, very near mint. There's good color separation, where the front is predominantly green and the rear is mostly blue. A really striking insulator!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY-19 // MADE IN U.S.A. {RDP}       Sold For: $220       Color: Aqua
Very good condition for this older style insulator. The shiny and clean glass has no stains or etching. This is perhaps the oldest embossed Hemingray piece made. There is some speculation that some of the unembossed units were also made by Hemingray, but these embossed units are much less common and far more desirable. Rarely offered for sale, especially in very good condition. A welcome addition for the Hemingray or early telegraph collector!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY-19 // MADE IN U.S.A. {RDP}       Sold For: $374       Color: Dark Aqua
Two 1/4" wire ridge flakes, otherwise very good for this old style insulator. Hemingray produced four variants of the original number 4 style: CD 124, 124.1, 124.2 and 124.3. Low threads, almost to the base, make for some great dome glass! These early 1871's have seen increased interest among collectors and this may easily surpass the estimate.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY // No 19       Sold For: $83       Color: Sage Aqua
Wire rub, very, very near mint. A nice addition to your signal collection that might be a little different from what you usually see. Two 1/4" bubbles in the front add some extra character!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY // No 19       Sold For: $94       Color: Green with Amber Blending
Three chipped drip points, otherwise very, very near mint. The HEMINGRAY // No 19 signals come in a myriad of colors, and it's hard to find two that are the same. Maybe this will fill in a hole for you!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY // No 19       Sold For: $578       Color: Rich Olive Green
About very near mint. Nice rich color that passes light easily and will stand out and contrast with your amber, blue and purple signals.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY // No 19       Sold For: $352       Color: Deep Yellowy Olive Green
1/4" base chip, 3/8" wire ridge flake and a couple of hard-to-see scallop bruises. This is a standout shade of darker green that still passes light easily.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY // No 19 {SDP}       Sold For: $220       Color: Light Aqua
Excellent condition with flawless base embossing! One can see the mold lines from the slotted mandrel used to form the threads. This rare, base-embossed "NATIONAL" variant in such good condition would make a great addition to so many collections!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY // No 19 {SDP}       Sold For: $297       Color: Olivey Yellow Green
A little scuffing on the perimeter of the wire ridge and skirt, and a few little flakes and dings, none of which detract from the insulator. This comes in many shades of green and this should help you expand your lineup!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY // No 19 {SDP}       Sold For: $231       Color: Bright Light Blue Aqua
A 3/8" skirt flake and a 1/2" base flake remove some of the base embossing. Only four styles of insulators are embossed with "NATIONAL INSULATOR" and they are all base-embossed, a characteristic of Samuel Oakman's insulators. A nice "mini beehive"!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY / MADE IN U.S.A. // No 19 {SDP}       Sold For: $220       Color: Blue
Fracture across half the dome, significant chipping on one segmented thread. A little haze, but a light cleaning would make this sparkle. Dug from the Westford, MA town dump, just a few miles from where your auctioneers live, this is the less common embossing variant with BOSTON BOTTLE WORKS PATENTED OCT 15 72 embossed around the crown. Nicknamed the "Boston Barrel", this early style features the four segmented threads and the hexagonal dome. See lot 37 for a shade of green. Own a piece of New England history!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G. CO.       Sold For: $61       Color: Aqua w/ Amber Swirls
Very near mint. The three drips in the front have open bubbles and thus appear shorter. Colorful amber swirling can be seen, especially in the rear. A neat signal, for sure!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G. CO.       Sold For: $578       Color: Purple

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - B.G.M. CO.       Sold For: $220       Color: Lilac Purple
With the exception of a 1" inner skirt chip, this signal is in very good condition! It's one of the tougher CDs embossed with the name "Baltimore Glass Manufacturing Company", which operated at the turn of the century. Some lilac tones can be see in this attractive and desirable piece, making it a good candidate to add to your B.G.M. collection!

About very near mint with a 1/4" flake on the wire ridge and several flaked/blunted drip points. What really sets this piece apart is a huge bubble nearly 2" wide and 1" tall which is totally enclosed in the glass. You rarely see a bubble this big, making this Mexican signal especially desirable!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - No 19 {Hemingray product}       Sold For: $352       Color: Translucent Cobalt Blue
Fantastic condition! Upon very close inspection one can see two very slightly slivered drip points and a very small ding on the crown. Note that this is a less common embossing variant, simply embossed "No 19", however the color and style leave no doubt it was produced by Hemingray. Milkiness is clearly seen throughout the piece, giving it a nice translucent color. There are also stronger milky swirls in the skirt. This insulator is truly worth a premium because of the embossing, great condition and pleasing color!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - K.C.G.W.       Sold For: $121       Color: Limey Green

{Round drip points} Very good condition with a few dings here and there. A hard to see 3/8" bruise on the wire ridge to the left. Factory-perfect round drip points! There are some heavy creases of glass in the dome. This is a more recent signal style with round drip points and the "MADE IN U.S.A." embossing. The well-saturated shade of Cobalt Blue is a somewhat deeper shade than you typically see, so it will contrast well in your lineup!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY // No 19       Sold For: $253       Color: Bright Cobalt Blue
{Sharp drip points} 1 flaked drip and 4 with open bubbles. Signals with sharp drip points are quite hard to find in fine condition like this one. There are some strong milky wisps in the dome and to the right of the embossing. Contrast this color with the darker shade in lot 104. The "must have" color in any collection!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY // No 19       Sold For: $308       Color: Deep Rich Cobalt Blue
Great condition, with only a small 1/8" flake on the wire ridge. 1/4" inner skirt roughness, a stress line on a drip point, all really insignificant damage. It is very difficult to find an example with flawless sharp drip points! The color is bright and well-saturated, and the lower pinhole shows off the deep, rich coloration. An example you will be very pleased to own!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY // No 19       Sold For: $396       Color: Rich Olive Green

Another stunning cobalt shade in fantastic condition!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G. CO.       Sold For: $550       Color: Deep Electric Peacock Blue

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G. CO.       Sold For: $352       Color: Whiskey Honey Amber

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - B.G.M. CO.       Sold For: $187       Color: Rich Purple
A factory fold in the glass creates a slight rainbow effect as can be seen on the front upper wire ridge, 3/8" base flake and 1/4" inner skirt chip. One of the tougher CDs from the Baltimore Glass Manufacturing Company, which operated at the turn of the century, and these are seldom seen for sale. The beautiful color is well-saturated and very attractive!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - B.G.M. CO.       Sold For: $286       Color: True Clear
1/2" base flake, a few smaller base flakes, 3/8" flake on the inner skirt, all of which are hard to see, otherwise about very near mint. The CD 162 style in general is scarce for this manufacturer and it is usually found in shades of purple. What sets this piece apart is that it is colorless. There is no tint at all in this piece, and these are very hard to come by. Clearly different, and a desirable insulator for sure!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - 1678       Sold For: $94       Color: Rich Deep Purple
Two 1" base bruises, a dozen chipped drips, a few dings, about average condition for this style. The "1678" referred to a design number used for ordering from a supply house and not to a date! A popular and very attractive signal style from Canada!

You're not going to find a Hemingray signal that's more yellow! (#0405)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY // No 19       Sold For: $99       Color: Honey Yellow Amber
About a dozen chipped drips scattered around the base. Interesting to note is that the wire ridge of some signals, such as this one, are quite large in diameter and nearly the width of the skirt. A neat variant! (#0969)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HEMINGRAY // No 19       Sold For: $132       Color: Rich Green w/ Amber Swirls
About 5 chipped drips, hard-to-see 1/4" flake on the inside of the outer skirt by the mold line, otherwise very very near mint. A great base color, leaning towards emerald green. The highlight of the piece is that it is inundated with amber swirls, bands and patches throughout which can be prominently seen in the skirt. The presentation is enhanced by meandering creases in the dome. The amber swirled pieces are gaining in popularity, and this is an excellent example! (#5797)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - HAMILTON GLASS       Sold For: $121       Color: Light Aqua
Some nibbling at the edge of the base, typical of many "mold line over the base" pieces, otherwise in great condition. The Hamilton Glass Company, active in the glassmaking during the last half of the 1800s, embossed its name on only one style of insulator, and it is relatively difficult to find one. A large, nearly 1" wide bubble can be prominently seen in the front skirt, and there are loose flakes of soot that move around in the bubble as you rotate the insulator! For an extra challenge and hours of entertainment, try to get half of the soot flakes on one side of the bubble and the other half on the other side! (#0100)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G. CO.       Sold For: $880       Color: Glowing Rich Electric Blue

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G. CO.       Sold For: $132       Color: Deep Honey Amber
About 6 chipped drips, otherwise about very very near mint. A rich, deep shade of amber! (#5694)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G. CO.       Sold For: $374       Color: Glowing Red Orange Amber
About 10 chipped drips, an area of scuffing next to the "H", otherwise very very near mint. Very few colored signals merit the title of "glowing" but when you put them on your shelf, they really stand out! The color is bright and well-saturated, and the glass is clean and shiny. As an additional bonus, this example has the earlier "script" style embossing. An outstanding piece! (#5726)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - H.G. CO.       Sold For: $231       Color: Dark Lilac
A couple of 1" base bruises each affect a few drips. 1/2" flake at the base of the skirt creates a 1/2" tall stress line. The lilac signals are more sought after and have a different hue than their purple counterparts. This one is particularly desirable in that it is darker and richer! (#0125)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - CALIFORNIA       Sold For: $88       Color: Purple w/ Gray Highlights

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - 1678       Sold For: $187       Color: Light Lavender/Light Purple Two Tone
About 8 chipped drips, otherwise at least very near mint. There is a concentration of purple in the dome, and the skirt is nearly clear. With the 1678s, the lighter shades of purple, such as this one, are more desirable than the darker shades, and this example is a real beauty! (#6099)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-162 - 1678       Sold For: $105       Color: Rich Purple
3/4" bruise affects 4 drips, 1 missing drip, a couple of chipped drips, otherwise at least very near mint. "1678" was not a year! It referred to a design number used for ordering from a supply house. (#6103)
