CD-168 - HEMINGRAY Sold For: $220 Color: Opaque Blackglass
Although most would consider this Opaque Blackglass, there is a small area of the skirt where you can just see a trace of color when lit with a very bright light. You can see the typical dings and pings characteristic of a Hemingray dump piece, although most areas are glossy black. Nice rainbow-swirled patina, especially on the rear. For another blackglass dump insulator, see the CD 230 in lot 154. It is believed Hemingray may have been making dark-colored insulators to compete with porcelain units. A neat item from the Hemingray dump!

CD-168 - HEMINGRAY Sold For: $2,365 Color: White Milk EIN: [110]
We've owned a number of these over the years, but we've never base lit them. What an amazing display! The skirt appears more Opalescent and the wire groove and part of the dome appear Light Green Opalescent. One can see stripes of different colors where the opalescent and white milk glass weren't mixed completely. While obviously from the Hemingray dump, this has no dings, flakes or chips, just the crude surface and some factory annealing lines which are very typical of these pieces. An especially nice white milk example punctuated with some opalescent areas!

CD-168 - HEMINGRAY Sold For: $231 Color: Opaque Blackglass EIN: [027]
This insulator is blackglass! We lit it with the brightest light we have and couldn't see a trace of color, even in the edges of the skirt. Surface etching adds to the character; this is very likely from the Hemingray dump. Many dump items are quite beat up, and this one is far better than many, with no chips and just a couple of dings. It is believed Hemingray may have been making dark-colored insulators to compete with porcelain units. A nice find for the Hemingray specialist!

CD-168 - HEMINGRAY Sold For: $231 Color: Opaque Blackglass EIN: [027]
The main view shows this insulator against a black background. In all seriousness, the insulator IS blackglass! We lit it with the brightest light we have and didn't see a trace of color, even in the edges of the skirt. Very likely from the Hemingray dump. Wonderful rainbow-colored patina and swirls in various areas. Many pieces from the dump are quite beat up, and this one is far better than most, with no chips and just a couple of dings. It is believed Hemingray may have been making dark-colored insulators to compete with porcelain units. What an exciting and unusual piece!

CD-168 - HEMINGRAY // D-510 Sold For: $72 Color: Light Carnival
Very, very near mint. One of several styles of "D series" power insulators that were carnivalized by Hemingray. Like most carnivals, they don't display that characteristic bright carnival "glow" when back lit and the light carnival coating makes this especially true. The carnival coating was applied at the factory to avoid RF interference or to mark specific lines.

CD-168 - HEMINGRAY Sold For: $72 Color: Carnival w/ Brass Bushing
Very, very near mint. The carnival coating was applied at the factory to avoid RF interference or to mark specific lines. The brass bushing was designed to ensure the uniformity of the pinhole when used on a metal pin. Many collectors find the brass bushing variant more desirable. You get an interesting view of the brass bushing and the square that prevents it from turning by looking at it from the dome as seen in view 3.

CD-168 - HEMINGRAY // D-510 Sold For: $72 Color: Carnival w/ Brass Bushing

CD-168 - HEMINGRAY // D-510 Sold For: $462 Color: White Milk
All of these experimental insulators came from the Hemingray dump. They often have brown staining, chips, heavy annealing stress marks and a chalky surface. This one is in great shape, with no chips, minor staining, and only one annealing fissure. Of extra interest are some areas of the skirt which are more like opalescent glass than opaque milk glass. A tough piece to get in good condition! (#0452)
