CD-176 - Whitall Tatum 'mushroom' Sold For: $8,580 Color: Straw.
| Referred to by collectors as the mushroom. From what we have learned, these didn't see much use beyond experimental applications, so it appears their production numbers were limited, leaving only a few survivors in the hobby today. The design of this insulator is quite unique, which in turn generates a strong interest with collectors. If you are searching for that one distinctively different insulator style to place front center in your collection for a solid visual impact, you need look no further. |

CD-176 - WHITALL TATUM Sold For: $3,740 Color: Clear
| 1" lower wire ridge chip in rear, otherwise very, very near mint. Leon T. Wilson patented this design in 1925, calling it a "low loss insulator." Whitall Tatum produced small numbers of these reportedly experimental insulators, and they were tested in New Jersey along with other insulator styles to compare their insulating performance. From the front, the insulator displays perfectly. This is a unique shape and a difficult CD to acquire as they rarely come up for sale. The classic "Mushroom" is a must for the CD collector! |
