CD-221 - HEMINGRAY-68 Sold For: $176 Color: Green Tint w/ Aluminum Top
| {Brass bushing} {Locke Hi-Top style; aluminum coated top} Four 1/4" fish eyes and some factory roughness around the crown. It's amazing that this insulator recently came out of service from the northern Indiana/Michigan area! These often had a thin aluminum coating on the upper wire ridge and ears, perhaps in an attempt to reduce RF interference. One can still see small areas where this coating was applied. This Locke Hi-Top style variant is very difficult to find, let alone one with the aluminum treated top. A rare and desirable insulator for the Hemingray or power collector that is very seldom seen for sale! |

CD-221 - HEMINGRAY-680 / LOWEX Sold For: $297 Color: Icy Green w/ Treated Top
| The treated top insulators probably came out of the Hemingray dump, and there are a few little pings and a flake on the skirt. Great condition overall for one of these pieces from the dump! The saddle and the pinhole were treated with a semi-conductive material that was believed to have been designed to reduce radio frequency interference. Produced in 1940. This treatment was applied to Hemingray's 600-series of CD 219-660, CD 220-670, CD 221-680. The treatment apparently had little success, because few if any were put into service. And a great companion for lot 171! (#0956) |
