CD-230 - HEMINGRAY Sold For: $105 Color: Dark Honey Amber w/ Quartz Sand Swirls
Silica (quartz) sand comprises over 50% of the ingredients in glass. In this case, the glass was not well-mixed and the sand accumulated on the outside of the glass. There are sand patches on the left and right wire groove and on the base and inner skirt and pinhole. CD 230's can be found with various amounts of sand in them, and this fits somewhere in the middle of the range. This characteristic is seen now and then, often in the darker Olive Amber glass, which is nowhere near as nice a color as this. The sand swirls in this piece, which is in great condition, make this a must-have for the Hemingray collector!

CD-230 - LOWEX Sold For: $61 Color: Dark Honey Amber
The LOWEX trademark was an abbreviation of LOW EXpansion - LOW EXpense, and referred to a special formula of glass that was developed by Hemingray to better withstand temperature changes without breaking. This is one of only three styles that are simply embossed "LOWEX" without the Hemingray name. About very near mint. Add this embossing variation to your Hemingray or power collection!

CD-230 - HEMINGRAY Sold For: $132 Color: Olive Amber "Blackglass"
"Blackglass," but when viewed in moderate lighting one can see a bit of the Olive Amber color. Typical Hemingray dump piece with some dings and pings and nice swirled etching lines. For an Opaque Blackglass example, see the CD 168 in lot 143. Perhaps this is something only a Hemingray collector would love, but if you are a Hemingray collector you should love it!

CD-230 - HEMINGRAY Sold For: $39 Color: Amber "Blackglass" EIN: [030]
This unit, likely from the Hemingray dump, is very dark but does pass a little light, especially in the skirt. Sandpaper finish on the dome and down the front of the insulator. Two 1" fractures running down from the saddle groove and some flakes and pings typical of these buried pieces. It has seen better days, but that's what makes this example interesting!

CD-230 - HEMINGRAY // D-512 Sold For: $396 Color: Dark Honey Amber w/ Quartz Swirls
Wow! Silica (quartz) sand comprises over 50% of the ingredients in glass. In this case, the glass was not well-mixed and the sand accumulated on the outside of the glass. And boy, did it! This characteristic is seen now and then, often in the darker olive amber glass, which is nowhere near as nice a color as this. One of the best we have seen! The first four pictures were taken with some front lighting. This distinctive feature covers nearly the entire top, significant areas of the skirt, as well as all around the base and pinhole. This is an outstanding example of this phenomenon, especially in very, very near mint condition!

CD-230 - LOWEX // 512 Sold For: $61 Color: Orange Amber Two-Tone
A few little dings around the saddle; consider it about very near mint. There is a bit of a two-tone coloration where one can see some slightly lighter areas in the skirt. There are only three CDs with the primary embossing LOWEX, which stood for LOW EXpansion - LOW EXpense. This less common embossing variant is not embossed "HEMINGRAY", although the piece was clearly manufactured by Hemingray.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-230 - HEMINGRAY Sold For: $176 Color: Carnival w/ Brass Bushing
Very near mint. There is a nice range of iridescence in the carnival coloring, which was applied at the factory to avoid RF interference or to mark specific lines. The brass bushing was designed to ensure the uniformity of the pinhole when used on a metal pin, and many collectors find the brass bushing variant more desirable. This is a great example!

CD-230 - HEMINGRAY // LOWEX / D-512 Sold For: $44 Color: Honey Amber
Excellent condition; dare we say mint? The LOWEX trademark stood for LOW EXpansion - LOW EXpense, and referred to a special formula of glass that was developed by Hemingray to better withstand temperature changes without breaking. The "Frog Eyes" is always popular!

CD-230 - LOWEX // 512 Sold For: $99 Color: Bright Honey Amber
Very, very near mint. There are only three CDs with the primary embossing LOWEX, which stood for LOW EXpansion - LOW EXpense. This less common embossing variant is not embossed "HEMINGRAY", although the piece was clearly manufactured by Hemingray. One can see some lighter areas and faint swirls in the skirt.

CD-230 - LOWEX Sold For: $33 Color: Rootbeer Olive Amber
Very, very near mint. There are only three insulator styles that are embossed simply "LOWEX," for LOW EXpansion - LOW EXpense. These insulators were only produced for a short period of time by Hemingray in 1939-1940, and are truly a classic!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD-230 - HEMINGRAY Sold For: $209 Color: Yellow Honey Amber
Excellent condition. You can definitely see a yellow influence in this example. The glass is filled with "fizz," making the color "pop" when back lit!
