Bill & Jill Insulators - Next Auction: Coming Soon |
This "Edison style" insulator was produced in the 1910's and was developed by General Electric Edison Co. It was discovered in a factory in Chelsea, MA where it was used as a large bus bar substation insulator. A handful of them, in various conditions, were recently removed. F.E. Getts was issued patent number 1,380,550 on June 7, 1921 for a bus bar sandwiched between two vertical clamping plates. An interesting combination of materials: the cap on the insulator appears to be cast iron, one of the plates is bronze, and the second plate is steel. This piece is over 12" tall. Wonderful condition! An unusual and eye-catching piece of hardware! |
