Bill & Jill Insulators - Next Auction: Coming Soon |
CD-402 - TS // FLAMREX {Italy} Sold For: $209 Color: Light Straw
| This insulator has been referred to as both a "two-part dry spot insulator" and a "terminal insulator". It has a glass cap that screws down on the top of the insulator. What is quite odd is that the pinhole is off center! Originally these were embossed "PYREX", but using the "FLAMREX" trademark avoided royalty issues. The damage-prone cap and threads are in excellent condition. The insulator itself has a small scuff, otherwise very, very near mint. An odd style, especially with this off-centered pinhole! |

Originally these were embossed "PYREX", but by using that name they had to pay Corning Pyrex of New York a royalty. By using their own trademark for this glass, they avoided that issue. Lot 223 also avoided the trademark royalty with its "HARDEX" embossing. This insulator is in great condition and is a really odd piece! |

CD-402 - PYREX // MIVA ACQUI {Italy} Sold For: $506 Color: Straw
| 4 3/4" tall. Very good condition. Even the damage-prone threaded cap is in great shape. This insulator has been referred to as both a "two-part dry spot insulator" and a "terminal insulator" It has an interesting feature: the pinhole is off-center, as can be seen in view 3, to accommodate a small hole, perhaps for the wire. Marilyn Albers' price guide for "Glass Insulators From Outside North America," published in 1996, gives an estimate of $300 - $350 for this piece; however, we'll be more conservative with our estimate. The use of Corning Glassworks' trademark "PYREX" indicates that permission was given to use their formula for "toughened" glass. Manifattura Isolatori Vetro Acqui Terme S.p.A. produced at least 25 styles of insulators, both for telecommunication and power use. They were embossed MIVA or MIVA ACQUI. The "S.p.A." refers to a public limited company, and Acqui Terme is a popular hot springs r |
