Two 1/2" shallow base chips in the rear. May have been lightly tumble cleaned. Produced for the firm Mulford & Biddle, who were suppliers of telegraph equipment. The CD 735 "Mulfords" that are not also embossed "U.P.R.R." have been found in the western states.

CD-735 - CHESTER Sold For: $1,540 Color: Light Aqua
Two 1/4" skirt flakes and a 1 1/2" base flake/chip as can be seen in the rear. The strong, bold embossing has a little roughness on a few letters. These insulators were mainly used on the Collins Overland Telegraph Company line in British Columbia. Clean and shiny!

CD-735 - MULFORD & BIDDLE Sold For: $578 Color: Frosted Light Green Aqua
Very good condition with 1/4" skirt flake, 1/4" base flake, no chips or cracks. The frosted surface most likely indicates this example was dug, and it really gives it a whole different look and feel compared to the "clear" glass example in lot 171.

CD-735 - MULFORD & BIDDLE Sold For: $1,595 Color: Light Aqua w/ Large Bubble
1/4" flake on dome, some base flaking but better than most. No chips or cracks. A large 1 1/4" x 1" graphite bubble is positioned around the "UPRR," making this quite unique. Contrast this with the frosted piece in lot 172. A nice bit of Transcontinental Railroad history!

CD-735 - MULFORD & BIDDLE // U.P.R.R. Sold For: $1,925 Color: Deep Dark Blue
A few flakes on the skirt, one of which affects the "LF" in the embossing and a 1 1/2" x 1/4" chip centered at the right mold line, a pinky flake on the wire ridge. This style of insulator was first manufactured around 1867, and was produced for use on the Union Pacific Railroad (U.P.R.R.) which was completed in 1869. The railroad was incorporated under the Pacific Railroad Act of 1862, and was approved by Abraham Lincoln. The act provided for the construction of railroads to preserve the Union during the Civil War. The U.P.R.R. was constructed from Council Bluffs, IA to meet the Central Pacific line, which began at San Francisco Bay, and the two met at Promontory, Utah. Mulford & Biddle supplied telegraph materials in the 1860s, operating out of New York. This insulator is a nice rich blue color that complements other shades of blue in which the CD 735 U.P.R.R. has been found. This example was discovered in Rawlins, WY. (from the Marvin Collins collection) (#0
