CD-740 - {Unembossed}       Sold For: $528       Color: Olive Green Blackglass EIN: [010]
This insulator is classified as a "Side wire groove 'Pilgrim Hat'; Rounded dome." The CD 740's were produced in the 1850's and 1860's. With the exception of a 1/2" base flake/chip, the base of this example is nice and clean. Some typical thin flakes around the base of the skirt. See lot 148 for a CD 740.1, a slightly different design. A nice example of a "Pilgrim Hat"!

CD-740 - {Unembossed}       Sold For: $99       Color: Blackglass
Several pieces have been reglued and there's an area of repair. This is the smaller size mold variant. These were produced both in the US and Canada from the 1840's to the mid 1850's.

CD-740 - {Unembossed}       Sold For: $550       Color: Olive Green Blackglass
A little flaking around a factory 1/2" bubble at the base, a 1/2" stress bruise at the left mold line. A 1" thin flake as can be seen in the photo. Overall, very good condition for one of these crude, old pieces. There are several different mold styles for CD 740's, and this one is the much less common "chubby" variant, with a chunkier appearance, a much taller skirt (up to 1/2" taller than typical) and a shorter crown. The extended base gives the insulator a much more appealing shape, and it's a full 4" tall. This unique piece will stand out in your 740 lineup!

CD-740 - FOSTER BROTHERS       Sold For: $2,255       Color: Olive Blackglass filled with Seed Bubbles
Crudely mint! Embossed on the base with "FOSTER. BROTHERS. ST. JOHN. C.E. 1858" as can be seen in view 3. The Foster family began working with glass in the Stoddard, New Hampshire area in 1842. Members of the family moved to Canada in the 1850s, and George W. & Charles W. Foster became associated with the Canada Glass Works in St. John, Quebec (originally known as Canada East, thus the abbreviation "C.E." in the embossing) which had been formed in 1845. Under the Fosters' influence, the CD 740 which bears the Foster name was produced in 1858. Crudely made, this insulator is filled with so many seed bubbles that it leaves pock marks all over the outside of the glass. An excellent example! (#0160) UPDATE: the shaded area at the lower skirt/base which you can see towards the right side of the insulator is not any kind of damage. A molding flaw.

CD-740 - {No embossing}       Sold For: $187       Color: Forest Green Blackglass
A few typical flakes at the base of the skirt, a hard-to-see bruise on the base creates a 1" fracture up to the pinhole. The insulator is not as dark as some "blackglass" pieces, and you can easily see the color when it is held up to a light! (#0507)
