CD-742 - M.T. (Montreal Telegraph) Light Blue       Sold For: $220
CD 742 M.T. CO. Light Blue with a light amber swirl. According to the McDougald's History & Guide to North American Insulators, the Montreal Telegraph Company used this style of insulator from the late 1850's into the early 1860's.

There's a little amber streak dancing around in the skirt and dome! This is one of the classic unembossed threadless insulators from Canada. Typical flaking on the base in the front, some chipping in the rear. Something for the beginning threadless collector!

CD-742 - M.T.Co [010]        Sold For: $200       Color: Light Aqua 
A threadless insulator marked for the Montreal Telegraph Company. A typical light blue aqua colour, but with unusually nice thick milky/snotty swirls throughout the front skirt. All of the embossing remains intact. It has a 1/2 narrow upper wire ridge flake and one large flat base flake on the same side, as well as a moderate surface haze from burial and some scattered scuffs and flea bite.

{Grooved base} Nice milk stringers can be seen, starting in the skirt, looping over the pinhole, and back to the skirt. Some base chipping, 1/4" ding. The presence of millky impurities in an insulator always adds some extra contrast and interest!

Large fizzy bubbles surround the milk ribbon which dances around the skirt and crown! This can be clearly seen when the insulator is backlit. The base has some of the typical flaking but is better than many. Clean and shiny and ready for display!

CD-742 - M.T.CO.       Sold For: $352       Color: Blue Aqua w/ Milk and Bubbles
Veils of milk sweep around the insulator, especially in the dome, giving it a light jade appearance. The bubbles, up to 1/8" diameter, can be seen all around. Flaking on about half the base removes "M.T" on this neat character piece. A big brute, measuring a full 1/2" taller than typical examples!

This insulator sports an interesting amber band! 1" flake on the base and a few around the skirt. A little scuffing on the dome. Base-embossed "M.T.Co" for the Montreal Telegraph Company, the clarity of the glass makes this piece shine!

Thick milk bands run through the insulator, giving it a jade-like appearance. The base is a little rough as is typical for these pieces, otherwise a flake on the dome and skirt. See lot 147 and lot 149 for other examples of the CD 742 style. Quite attractive and a great piece to acquire for your threadless collection!

CD-742 - M.T. Co       Sold For: $275       Color: Aqua w/milk swirls.
A nice Montreal Telegraph Company threadless, signified by the M.T. Co embossing on the base rim. This example is a step above the ordinary, containing milk swirling, primarily in the skirt area. Base lighting will display the milk to its best potential (View 1). Embossing is bold and clear, with very close examination there is just a peck of glass missing at the very top left of the 'M' (View 4).

1" base chip and flaking at mold line, 1" base flake. The CD 742 was first produced in the 1860s and was manufactured in Canada, probably until the 1870s. This insulator bears the name of the Montreal Telegraph Company, which was founded in 1847. Note that this is the less common "raised small o with period" embossing variant. (#0527)
